The deer's head is bigger than the kid. :-O

Does anyone ever use bulldogs for deer hunting? Not for killing the deer, for tracking and for gripping its antlers/ears so it won't kill the hunter. (I can imagine a bulldog thrown up in the air by the deer, like in all of those old school bull-baiting paintings.)

I don’t think hunting with bulldogs like that is legal with deer. You’re talking catch work like hogs.

I don't think that would work with a bulldog. It would be hard to shoot the dear's head with a bulldog latched on, probably end up shooting your dog. Taking on a dear with a knife is too dangerous.

Congrats to the little kid. Thats a huge achievement. As far as dogs and deer go, here you can't hunt with dogs gor deer at all. You can use them to sniff out shedded antlers but never during an active hunting season. Can also I believe use them to track a blood trail to find a wounded deer but I'm not really sure that law actually passed.

Up in Canada it is illegal to have a dog even with you if hunting big game. Hogs are not considered game. You are allowed to use them on cougars though and birds of course. My uncle went on a cougar hunt with a guy he knows that had blue tick hounds and said it is just a pleasure to see those dogs work. That deer that young boy got is a very nice animal a once in a life time deer if you have better luck than me.

I wish I still lived in Nor Cal because that was where I saw my first live, non-captive wild deer. (The first wild deer I saw was a roadkill.) I would love to hunt California mule deer and stock my freezer with venison that I shot myself. Mmmmm...venison...
