    Hey guys,

I got this dog from a byb as an amstaff but on walks people keep telling me he’s actually an apbt and I get heaps of bad looks. They are illegal in my country so I’m not too sure what to say back to people. He does have very high drive and is very dominant with other dogs but I’m not too sure whether he’s apbt or not… what do you guys think? Im sure you experts will be able to clear up some confusing I have.

It really doesn't matter as you have now taken on the ownership and responsibility...take care of your dog the best you can. Welcome to the forum.

He's a good looking dog but I'd just treat him like any other dog

Okay. I’ve been avoiding him meeting other males for a while because I’m worried he might bite but I think he just needs training if he’s not a pitbull

ALL dogs need training. You can do a DNA test if you really want to know. With regard to the APBT, they are dog aggressive. It's a normal trait. It can be managed but not trained out of the dog.

He has basic training, I was forced to because I couldn’t walk him. I initially thought there was something wrong with him because he pulled non top on walks and would get into the pitty stance all the time as a puppy. Until a few people told me he is a pit and that’s how they are so I looked it up and yeah he just pulls for hours straight on walks. I socialised him a lot even dog parks but when he got about 9 months I stopped dog parks because he seemed to start getting very dominant and I thought he might be pit. So I’m not sure if he’s so dog aggressive because I stopped socialising him or because he is a pit. Now that I know he’s not a pit I will have to sort it out.

He would stand in this position and want to go towards other dogs.. I thought this was a common pitbull trait? 75FF8CA6-B243-4596-B999-848D6691B560.jpeg

You call bulldogs "pittys"? Jesus Christ.

No leaning again a collar is an every dog thing. It's not breed specific. Sounds more like you just wanna tell folks you have a "pitty" than anything else.

Why would I want to tell people when they are illegal and if anyone notifies council they will take him off me. I’m just confused because I got an amstaff but people telling me he is a pitbull so what do I tell them? They are wrong and he is an amstaff. When I do they think I’m trying to argue with them or something. I’ve been limiting socialisation because I’m worried he’s going to kill a smaller dog. If I 100% know he’s not an inherently aggressive dog then I’m going to find a trainer to help find him friends because I can’t keep up with his energy needs anymore. What difference does it make if I call him a pit, pitty, pitbull, apbt, bulldog etc?? The same point is made. I know he’s not a apbt so I’m happy thanks.

I said he's not an apbt because you said yourself he was shit bred. Means chances are he's just a mutt. You have any sort of pedigree on him?

How are you going to listen to anyone off the street who thinks they can look at a dog and know what it is? That in itself is retarded.

And calling them pittys is just well gay. It's like calling Chuck Lidell an "octogony"....

Even if it is a staff it could still be dog aggressive. You do know what staffs were originally bred for right? Why is it ppl get dogs and immediately want it to have sleep overs with other "doggy friends"? He's just fine without you getting a trainer to make play dates for him.

Well one person said he bred them for 11 years.. this was when he was a puppy so that confused the hell out of me. Yeah he’s byb with no pedigree because I didn’t want a pitbull, if the breeders pulled out a pedigree saying pitbull I wouldn’t have got him tbh. I’m honestly just trying to be a responsible dog owner I don’t understand why you’re getting mad.

No one is mad. You should toughen up. The whole world is rainbows and belly rubs. You're gonna have a hard time if being told you're wrong, why, and what to do to fix it hurts your feelings.
