Not sure if terriers now days have lost the way as a great hunter just to become super hard dogs who are walked up to sets and cut off the lead. When I hunted with Murdoch a few years back he sacrificed his great hunters for a more hard type terrier Import from over seas. I have used his original stock crossed into are own blood. Even though they are not as hard I would rank them a 7 out of 10 for hardness they can locate like no other. They have locate game 14ft up inside a tree where I proceed to throw them up in the den hole that they climbed into to do battle and keep both occupied. Did he dispatch both no considering one was 3lbs bigger and the other 7lbs bigger. The point being how many are still using terriers that can actually locate game on a cold trail that the wind has been blowing the scent around for hours before they showed up? Many great terriermen have been quoted as saying if you can't locate it you'll never get it. Just food for thought ~ TPC
