now you are talkin genetics...you gotta learn on how to ride a bike before you start poppin wheelies...then you can worry about ridin wheelies! lol

  2. Yeah, I know the hands-on experience is the real key. I just want to be prepared to dive in.

For instance, a few days ago, I thought that if I got some game pups and raised them up together, that I might be able to keep them together, let them closely interact, maybe unsupervised, etc. Now I realize that was incredibly naive, and I really underestimated what exactly it means to have a GAME DOG. This hasn't turned me off, though. It's probably intrigued me even more. If I just jumped in and tried that shit, I probably would have made a huge mistake.

  3. For sure. I just ask because I wouldn't want to drop a bunch of money on a puppy that ended up full-blown retard or something lol

Right now the thing you need to look into and study is a proper chain set up and your yard lay out.Proper health care and feeding. And the cost of all this. Its a lot of work .Also what is the laws in your area about chaining dogs ? Your area may have some type of laws against it.Look around your area and keep your eyez open and see what others do.

"Chinaman has a different shaped head. There is little to no stop on his head similar to a old style bull terrier." I posted something similar a cpl years ago. Don't think his recent ansestors were a show EBT but he did seem the have a similar pheno. Maybe some old type in the back of his ped and he had a throwback to that type muzzle/ head

  8. I've been looking through the yard setups here, taking notes. Seems like there's some slight differences in opinions of which locks or clamps to use to secure the chain. Chain itself, 1/4" max, grade quality is key. Axle buried or mostly buried. There's some difference in opinion there also. That's basically what I took away.

One thing I hadn't considered til you mentioned it were laws on chaining. That's a great question to have raised.

As for food, I'm not too concerned with being optimally cost effective for one or two pups. I can afford to feed at my convenience there. However, if I do eventually end up taking on a few dogs, I'll just raise my own food. That's one thing I learned from keeping monitor lizards. They're basically walking bottomless pits, and will eat non-stop. It was infinitely more cost effective to put in the work, and raise my own feeders. In that case, I would probably raise chickens outdoors, and supplement frozen/thawed rodents, digestible greens, etc. That seems like a sensible diet to me.

All hugely significant things to consider. Thanks, guys.

So was that statement. You are using the title "game dog" instead of the descriptive phrase "game bred dog". There is only one way to find out if your dog is game. You go talkin about your game dog to or around certain ppl you might get a convo you weren't ready for! Keep readin bro. Read, then ask questions and then ask more questions. My mom always said the dumbest question is the one you didn't ask...

Honestly, I'd drop the term game when talking to anyone about these dogs. Game suggests the dog has been used in illegal activities. Game bred still relates to dogs bred for the purpose. Both are against the law in all 50 states. Just say APBT or some other term not referring to illegal activities. JM2c

  11. I don't mean to argue semantics, but that is basically what I meant. A bred dog. To be clear, my goal is to try to REDIRECT those traits into other sports. I am reading and asking questions, and if I sound ignorant, then that's fine. My purpose for being here is education. If, in the end, I decided they weren't for me, then that would have been worth it. However, I'm still more encouraged then I was before, so I will continue to read and ask dumb questions.

And I would never openly talk about something like this. I'm only talking about it openly now because it seems like everyone else pretty much is. For instance, just yesterday I was talking with a friend about trying the APBT. I would never actually open Pandora's Box, and tell him the depth of what I've been looking at.

I might ask seemingly dumb questions, but I'm not actually dumb.

I'm not saying you or your questions are dumb. Just tryin to make the road as smooth as possible for you! It ain't hard to get well bred dogs, if you have the money. It's the relationships you're after! Using the lingo correctly and sounding like you know what you're talking about goes a long way. That's why I said keep reading and asking questions. Reread the last sentence in my post. Good luck! It's a long road. You can determine how bumpy it is

Another one.... Maybe you should call up Joanie at Tatonka, she will have something for you that fits the mold in what you are looking for. Great confirmation, good energy and intensity and shouldn't be a hazard.

There's a feed linked to this board "Institute of Canine Biology". They have quite some articles and accumulated studies on genetics. Broken down in such a way it's understandable for non-experts. Certainly worth reading imo.

Everyone thinks they own design of dog is the best. The so called Fastlane 1 hour thunder runner for the gamblers. Then you got the show guys. The fatties that are blue and other colors. But deep down we all know what a true pitbull is añd it ain't about what's on the outside.
