Elmo was super shy but in the box proved to be a killer. As for Frisco's curness, ask VR. He knows a couple of things for him...

I had one off Elmo/RedVelvet that would practically knock the back out of his doghouse anytime anyone would enter his chain spot.. I tried unsuccessfully to establish a bond with the dog, even after months of continuously "doing my part"..

Cajun i agree with you. I got a female pup at 14 weeks who never left her Breeder's Basement. Dog was Shy. Would lay on it's back
if a car drove by when I was walking it. Nurture not Nature... in my opinion. But it is weird that she has Elmo in her.
As far as "lines" go, I had a Redboy dog in the late 80's who was solid as a rock. Nothing spooked him..period. Super people friendly.
I also had an Alligator Bitch who was not a man-biter...but did not LIKE anybody but me. Didn't like to be petted by no one,
didn't wag her tail at no one, barked at a few people, ect.

Elmo liked me, and my son of his was fine.

I have noticed she is getting better, I started taking her out to open fields and letting run...she loves it.. I'm finding that repetition is the key. These dogs have to be treated as individuals, which is the approach I am taking with her. Only time will tell.

I agree. That has been my experience with one of my dogs now. She has come a long way since I got her. She came from a large yard and there's no way to show the one on one that I show my dogs. Genetics surely play a role but environment does too.

My Dog is Frisco top and bottom , and all i read here explain alot for my dog behavior , he doesnt care/like people .

He doesnt like to be petted , he doesnt like when people speak in a room he leave for empty room etc ....

Can be annoying for an house dog .

I'd beg to differ, I'd rather have one like that in the house than having one that has to be the center of everyone's attention and howls like a wolf when crated and people are in house.

Nature vs nurture....it's little bit if both but usually the ones I had that were shy looked just like copies of the original one that was

I've been blessed over the years, have never had a shy dog. Always the total opposite. I agree with the nurturing, maybe that's why I've never had or produced one because I spend an insane amount of time socializing my litters. Most of the time I hear people talk about shy dogs, for the most part, they almost always came from a mass breeder, garner being the most often name I hear associated with shy dogs over the years. Someone who most likely spends absolutely no time at all with their litters other than to feed and clean up after them, which i doubt he even does either of those 2 things himself anyways as he hires help for all that.. Maybe that's the common denominator? Pups who fail to receive much attention from the people who bred them in the earliest stages of their development. IDK. Personally I feel from birth to around 3 or 4 months of age is an extremely impressionable time in a dogs life. Jm2c on shy dogs, take it with a grain of salt as I've seen shy dogs but have never owned or produced one. Don't think I would even keep one like that since that trait is the polar opposite of a normal APBT'S typical behavior. At least the few hundred I've been around over the years anyways. They should be extremely confident dogs.

I also think that a cur is a cur is a cur. Anyone making excuses as to why it's so based on some certian trait like shyness or human aggressiveness has

    1. bred the dog already or
    2. is going to in the future
    3. Trying to justify to ones self ( and often times everyone else too) why its being kept in the program.
    4. Just making an excuse as to why they think the dog is a cur

I never bothered to worry about sub classifications for curs lmfao... A quiter is a quiter regardless of why.

The topic is not about cur , or socializing dog that will spent their life on chain spot or in kennel .

Frisco and shy dog , thats it .

This is based on a person's decision more so than the box quality of the dog. I feel like the daughter of Tyrone would have won both near and far. She had 50 minutes of hell built right in. Granted the crate would be full of piss and shit at the end of the ride. Getting her to weight would have been a nightmare. She never made it to the show because she was shy and no one would take a $$$$$ chance on her not because her being shy lessened her as a box dog.

I didn't travel at all with her for that very reason, but knocked a couple-three in the head within a few miles of the house.

It is a trait, no more, no less. People choose box dogs on traits, no more, no less. And people choose not to box dogs because of traits.

Yes I know what the topic is. It was mentioned earlier in the thread about one possibility having to do with another which is why I made my 2 comments. The one about shy dogs I just forgot to quote the post. I put in the H/a comment too as many people also believe them to be curs too but like being shy, it is just another undesired trait that also has nothing to do with performance when racing. I know what is being talked about when people say a shy dog, meaning people shy not dog shy. When I say socialize I don't mean with other dogs. I mean paying attention and spending time with them as pups not getting them used to other dogs. The Frisco part is irrelevant since that isn't the only dog that has produced other dogs that were shy. With people of course. I guess I didn't think I had to fully explain what I meant for people to understand it. The breed it not known to be EITHER, People or dog shy. I was talking about people shyness though in my comments if you didn't catch that.

Agree with AGK's post. The puppies are very impressionable from birth to three or four months.

I have never been a part of one those huge puppy operations but I will venture a theory a little deeper. I would bet it is the last puppy sold that ends up with the most issues. They first have the warmth and comfort of the mom and littermates. Then mom goes after 5-6-7 weeks. Then at 8 or so, one by one, they all are sold.
If the last one to go gets a week or so by himself it could come with negative impact. Just a guess.

I have a female that came from a guy who spent a shit load of time with her. She has no issues with me. Friendly and full of herself. She works and performs with zero issue for me. She really does not like anyone else. Coax a little and she will warm up but off the bat she is not a people person. She even acts a little people aggressive until the coaxing takes place. I have known some that this is a 'cull-able' offense. I sort of like it. If the thief rolls in she would be the only one left. All the others absolutely love everyone. Happy as hell to all.

If I had no experience with the dog and saw the human aggression/aversion it would be a turn off for me. Since I know her and she is mine, it is a non-issue.

The point being it may be linked to the operation but it also is very individualistic to that particular dog. If you personally own and know several from the same operation and see those same traits, it is more of a solid link. If you know yours and hear about others it is less of o connection.

My female for instance, would mean all Mims dogs show aversion and aggression toward people. That is the furthest from reality.
