Folks, name some working bloodlines and individual dogs who have produced a lot of child-friendly progeny. :dogkiss:

  3. i believe that any dog you raise around kids should be fine provided that the correct reinforcement is taken when needed, for example not letting your dog play with your children or any kids the same way he or she plays with you. However all dogs should be supervised when with children. As i stated though as long as their raised from pups with kids they should be fine. (just my personal experience and opinion)

Your statement is misleading. Not every dog is like that. Some no matter how well you raise or train them they wont be fine around kids.

i guess I am an odd ball. I don't let kids play with my yard dogs. i don't consider them family pets.

This is about the dumbest shit I've read in a min. It takes a real smart person to decide to get a Gamedog for children as a pet! I know they have this reputation as being "nanny" dogs and what not but I don't think one should get a Gamedog specifically to have for the kids to play with. And you dam sure can't break it down by bloodline, it's a dog to dog basis.

90% of people that are into the dogs and a few old ones care about unstable animals now seems to be the order has changed my old dog though is the complete package loves people and kids and is a beast all in the same day their coming harder to come by made like that though

It's not about the stability of the dog or tendencies in breeding. It's mainly about not being able to judge a whole line of dogs, you just can't say that a certain line of dogs are child friendly.

Im with PMD, I have never mixed my animals with the family period. They are my animals and they have there area which is off limits to everybody. If friends come over my animals are not a topic or something to go look at for amusement.
My kids know to stay away from them. With that said there are once in a while type animals that are just super well behaved, but for the most part most these animals are high strung and they don't mean any harm, but will ruff house
and you have to understand this.
With all this said, I believe that the worst people to own this breed or any breed are people that buy on impulse and have no clue what there getting into hence the crazy questions people post on this site on a daily basis, which make the
veterans in these animals shake there head in dismay. All these animals have different attitudes some shitty some nice, but the majority get fired up easy and crank up at the site of another hound. In this moment in my opinion and any die hard fan
know that they get truly wild and you best be in total control of the whole situation, and that means even if yours is on a leash and or under full control the un assuming impulse buyer with his cure off the leash clearly does not. Try managing all this with your
children around and out in public. Rare moment? Yes, but not handled properly the consequences will have lasting negative effects.
You will learn to love that chain spot set up real quick if you do make it out of the situation without animal control getting involved.

imo these dogs are not for children !
Yes it is good to socialize young pups
With children again imo...but as others
Have said you need to be in control at
All times and if you do let children interact
With these dogs you need to be supervising
The whole time a dog that means no harm
Can still scare or hurt a young child just by
Barking and rough housing...can apbt's be
Good with children yes hell some are great
With kids but it's on a dog for dog basis and
Not bloodlines imo if you want a dog that will
Be around children 24/7 get a trained therapy
Dog ! These dogs ain't for everyone!

^This. We socialized all our VBK dogs with little kids from the time they were baby pups and were happy with the results, e.g. when I flew with my main therapy/show dog (an inbred grandson of VBK's Ch Blacky and VBK's Alice) to a conformation show in Phoenix, he sat for like fifteen minutes with his eyes closed while the toddler in the next seat was petting him. Quite a few adults were impressed with how gentle he was. I want all my Pit Bulls to be this way with kids.

I agree with most of what you posted and my dogs were conditioned not to bark at children, jump on them in play, etc. A lot of kids are afraid of dogs and I didn't want a dog (especially not a bulldog) that would scare kids. I went to shows and researched various lines before getting my first bulldogs so I would know what to expect and so I could pick a strain that had a track record of good disposition with children, for my therapy (PTSD) dogs. I think heredity is significant to a degree. I would never buy a pup off a man biter or from a line that throws a lot of HA dogs because even if it were socialized as a pup I would never trust it around children once it grew up. And I certainly don't think kids should be left alone with a dog of any breed/non-breed. I don't own a big yard of dogs and my need is for a good therapy dog who knows never to bark at, nip at or jump on children. A lot of strangers are going to encounter me with my dog, so I need a dog with an inherent good disposition toward people. So far I have had two generations of Ch Blacky dogs that filled the bill. None of my bulldogs have been pets. Their job is to stop me from having panic attacks, flashbacks and crying spells. I took my main therapy dog to a conformation show for fun and when he won second place I decided to take him to more shows, but he was first and foremost a working PTSD dog, not a pet. I have never owned a big yard of dogs and probably never will but I get what the people who own a big yard are saying about keeping kids away from kennel dogs (again, of any breed/mix).

Maybe this thread was not a good idea. :corner:

This is just my opinion but
I think your best bet would be to talk to people individually, if you already attend shows. Spark up conversation, this question is better suited on an dog by dog basis. Too many men/women have their own standard for what they look for in a dog, ie. some people overlook HA to a degree in favor of other traits, and it shouldn't be put on the bloodline as much as the breeders breeding program.
I hope that made any sense.

I think it varies dog to dog. My Jethro dog was great with all people including strangers. He was very socialized and obedience trained though. My new haystack pup...time will tell.

    U are wrong my friend
where did the American Staff come from J.P Colby Who had a dog that killed his brouthers son. That was the dog that started. The American Staff Louis told me that out of his owne mouth.
Some one mentioned OFR did u know that B.Wallace had several dogs that were man biters but also good [] dogs? that was his whole reasoning for the saying "I dont want my dogs going to the Pepsi generation"
Im not knocking any line beacuse I was raised around them all and have had most of them Carver, Eli, Halls, Colby, Himphill, Wallace, Lightner. U have to have a respect for what these dogs are capable of and what thay are breed for.
