You could breed to what ever you want. You can breed a pure this to a pure that. I just say breed to what you like because you are going to be the one that feeds them. Just try to make sure what you breed actually works.
I started with scatter bred dogs for more than just one reason. 1st reason & most important reason was that the female actually worked. She wanted it, was good at it & couldn't be beat @ it.
That's all that mattered. Me or no one else that seen cared how she was bred, we loved the way she worked.
How a dog is bred isn't as important as how you should breed the dog.
Another reason why I went with a female because a female will make or break your line quicker than a male. I always saw it as the female will set the pace & the males will show the distance. I got better dogs as a whole as long as I stuck with good working bitches. The numbers just stay up a little higher % wise than just concentrating on the male. Both dogs matter.
You can breed a good bitch to a handle full of males with fancy tittles & a weak female to the same males & get far different results.
I just never seen a dogs for anything other than what they show in a hunt. Good or bad comes from actions .
I started with an honest working bitch with a crazy looking breeding a produced an even great working bitch with even crazier looking papers & after years with I maxed out the families potential, I crossed over to well bred dogs as close to pure as I could get that worked with what I was feeding.
From a scattered bred female this

    good day ziggy,
I must say that it is plain to see the work and dedication that you guys put into the family of dogs you have been working with. It must be even more satisfying because you guys didnt start with the famous dogs who nuts were bred off a million times but simply with a dog who you obviously liked enough and bred and concentrated on that family. I personally dont know the dogs in that ped aside of the more famous families like the sorrells that was added and the crabs stuff i saw as well, but the dogs you started with must have shown you something you guys liked. Just wanted to commend you guys and say good work and I hope you guys are still getting dogs that leave the same impression upon you as the APOLLO dog you guys talked about and the others that showed you that they deserved to be bred

Anyway back on track i agree with ziggy the dogs will show you who deserves to be bred it is if we are willing to listen and the next step is how you should breed this worthy candidate.
