ok so my uncle is a hog hunter and uses pitbulls for catch dogs but now he wants a smaller more stockier dog and are agile but have enough weight to bring down a hog . I went with the patter dale terrier / irish staff cross because I don't think a bully is a good dog to hog hunt with and it can hardly run after the hog but I did agree with the bull terrier / patter dale cross but he doesn't want that . if you pictre the bully cross itll be stocky and very short legs because the bull terrier is short enough by itself itll just be making another kinda bully instead of a catch dog but if you picture the patter dale/ irish staff cross its short but not so short it cant keep up with the other dogs its not as stocky but has enough weight to hold the hog and has a strong bite . so which do you think he should go with ?

staffs from ireland are just in four states in the US, one was imported long time ago and was watered down mixed up, the rest are in mn, ca, va and lower midwest, of the 6 staffs imported i own/ed 5 of them. nobody has got a staff from me except people i know and trust. i have not crossed them with anything either. there's no such thing as irish staff. i also like to know those staffs imported from ireland too. all this of course, is if you are talking about working dogs. plenty of expensive showshit people import from all over to win a ribbon or a trophy at the fat lady shows

if you got some gould or dr patts the staffs blood is way back, the % isn't even worth mentioning

What type of "pitbull" does your uncle use as catch dogs? If those type of pitbull dog is working fine why would your uncle want to change to another breed of dog?

There are two storys of irish staffs over here (uk) one is irish staffs is just a word for apbt to get around bsl and the second is "The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was developed in the region of Staffordshire, England in the nineteenth century from crosses between bulldogs and various terriers. The Staffordshire Bull was developed for the then-popular sport of bull baiting. The breed's popularity waned as interest in the sport waned. Irish breeders then attempted to create a taller and leaner type of dog that could be used primarily for dog fighting. When dog fighting was banned the breed became rare, although it is becoming more and more popular now. These days the breed is used mainly as a pet, however there are some owners who use the breed for jumping and weight pulling competition, as athletics is where this breed excels. The Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not a dog for every family, but in the hands of a dominant, experienced owner it can be a successful pet and family guardian." and they're also recognized by four kennel clubs. heres a picture of a friend of mines old dog bred for kk lines [IMG]
