So I been doing some investigation, I feed raw, have been for about 6yrs. I get my meats from the grocery. While not terribly expensive, beef tip $3 a pound. I can't seem to find a cheaper route. The butcher at the groceries don't have anything but fat left over, the meat processing place near me won't sell or give away anything, and the online places to buy meets for dog, while priced well, shipping makes it more expensive than buying at the grocery. What or where do Yall get your meats?

 

go to the poultry processors, most if not all sell theyre chicken backs in bulk for dirt cheap. i get em @ 50 cents a pound. in other states theyre even cheaper. my buddy in az gets a 40lb box for $15.

 

Yea I guess I'm just gonna have to keep searching, the one meat processing place near me, well he seemed like a butt hole and seemed rather upset that I even asked. There a couple more processing places further out Im gonna check with. The online places have a lot of choices but good lord shipping dang near doubles the price. I'm gonna try and find a farmer or some dear hunters around here. I know a couple hunters that don't eat the meat but have it processed and donated to the homeless. If anything maybe I can get the scraps.

 

heres what i buy consistantly (ammounts do vary but this is an idea):

chicken backs 40lbs: $24
sardines: $2 a lb. (usually a bag of 3 that typically will feed 6 dogs)
pallet of 5 dozen eggs: $12
24lb bag of oats: $14
5lb tub of lard"$6

what kills me is the supplements (but they do last a long while so i only spend this a few x a year):
salmon oil: $37 a gallon
wgo: $16 a gallon
multi vitamin: $5

 

hit your local hunting forums and facebook groups, get in good with em.

theres also butchers that go to your house to butcher your livestock, and they dispose of the extras. talk to them!

chicken houses get dead chickens regularly, a lot of hunting clubs also raise wild game such as pheasants.. see what you can do to get theyre dead ones.

i know yall get some dead deer in the road out there in tenesee....lol

im personally gonna talk to the cattle rancher next door and see if i can buy his stillborns off him.

 

Yea I use Fish oil tablets from the grocery with multi vitamin. Also a tub of lard like you do. I also use Bone Meal. You can get it at most nutrition shops. Nothing more than ground up bone. Very inexpensive and high in nutrition. I got a huge bag of RF1 I may sprinkle on there from time to time. TG gave me a free bag. Good stuff but I wouldn't be buying it all the time as high priced as it is.

 

Do you have a dedicated freezer? Check out Big Dan's Trucking. Their meat is 4D, but great pricing if that's something you're interested in. If you find beef tips for $3/lb you're lucky! Beef around here, anything other than cheek meat is at least $4.75/lb. I dip into these little meat markets around town and i've had luck at the African and Indian meat markets. They'll let me dig through scrap barrels for free. No luck at the bigger stores, i'm sure people knock on their door daily. I also stopped at a local farmers market and met a guy there that raises chickens, still building that relationship. But hoping that will turn out to be a good outlet for whole chickens.

 

Lol dude the road kill thing was recommended by the butcher when I told him why I needed the meat. I will feed my dogs meat that's been processed, but I ain't processing it myself lol. I'm not a hunter and never processed anything. Only cleaned fish. But yea, I'm gonna try to get in with a few hunters and farmers I guess. See what I come up on.
