Hi, I am from South Africa, and I was chosen by my loving doggie to be his dad over a year ago. His dad had papers, and I really didn't care to register him because I see so many mix looking pitts in south Africa having papers and being " 100% purebred" So I could care about papers, it doesn't mean anything to me out here.
However I am looking for a life partner for my boy, and doing my research so I know to choose a great match "not via papers but via education"

Here are some pics of my boy Carlito, please let me know what you think. Is he 100% pure bred, does he look like a great example of what a pit should look like etc?
He can jump over my head ( im about 5.4) 164 cm, and he can sprint short distance faster than any other dog iv seen.. if I bend a branch from a tree he will just hang on it, lol.. very powerful, very gentle, and has never bitten any other animal cus I love him so dearly he has become loving to the world

I just been waiting for someone to mention that. Lol very loving. Anyways, no one will be able to tell you anything other than an opinion without paperwork.. you say the dad is registerd but what about the dam.

 

I don't think they registered the mother. But she was looking good. I think my boy looks pretty good, great bone structure, straight back, good stop, not too wide that it seems mastiff like, looks pretty good to me. The reason im asking for more advice is because im looking for a life partner for him (a female) and even registered there are a lot of different shaped dogs out here 'registered as 100% pitts" - I live in south Africa. So id rather educate myself very much, and rely on education to make the decision rather than paperwork- as I say I really don't care about the paperwork, rather how the dog is

 

From the looks of the face I'd say that dog is a mix. Doesn't make it a bad dog, just looks mixed to me.

 

I agree boogie and looks to be a big boy also.He almost looks like he has some American Bulldog in him maybe.None the less he may be good for catch work.

 

Well without it your guess is as good as anyones but that doesnt make it so. You dont have a ped neither do you know the people or their breeding practices so no point in speculating further. Enjoy the dog and forget the whole lifepartner idea lol, and leave it to the folks that have a clue. Go look at the adba website for conformation standard if you want to make yourself feel better about doing it but you not gonna get much support here about it.

 

Wont make a catchdog if it doesnt bite other animals..

user you never know until you try it..sometimes they get around a hog and squeels with some dogs it just triggers something.then again it would make sence if he has american bulldog in him not to be aggressive towards animals especially in his own yard.They were protectors.But if he is mixed what ever he is mixed with may set off a trigger.Possible.

Could be purebred. You do get some with more open flews like that but if i was betting i would say he has some American bulldog in him. Why does it matter? He is your pet and if you are going to breed him to a female what is your objective?

 

What does a pit mix look like? Because most that are registered in South Africa are true thoroughbred apbts even if u may think they not. Remember that not all apbts are multi coloured big boned or even huge dogs. I get asked what dog am I walking regularly and because of the disbelief when I used to tell them its an apbt I have since resorted to telling them its a lab x staffie.
Now my recent ones arent registered as I bred some of them myself from registered parents and keep detailed peds on them for my own records.
That dog looks like the typical Stomponato/Hank/ Spike dogs thats prevelent on the South African show scene.

 

How much does the dog weigh? He looks pretty big and my best guess would be American bulldog.
