Hey guys I have a question let say you have a male dog we will call him A have a brother to him we will call him B and a bitch we will call C and a bitch called D were gana say all dogs are proven bulldogs ok dog A is a really good dog has smarts hard mouth good temperament really good drive but he is lazy when it comes to work dog B has a tremendously hard mouth really good drive he goes 100 miles an hour all day every day bad ass worker but is stupid as hell dog C has tremendous drive good temperament really smart but has a soft mouth dog D is really laid back has good drive good temperament good drive average mouth ok so dog D is the Dam to a dogs A,B,C we will call their line the alphabet line so let say this is the line you want to work with ok here’s the list of traits so you want to keep

    hard mouth
    good temperament
    really good drive
    smarts
    gameness

ok so let say you breed A&D and you got a high percentage of the litter with

    average mouth
    good temperament
    good drive
    smarts
    gameness

and you breed B&C you get a high percentage of the litter with

    hard mouth
    good temperament
    extreme drive
    smarts
    gameness

now if you take offspring from both A&D and offspring from B&C and breed them together what are the chances that those traits will stick and alphabet line will be known to produce a hard to average mouth good temperament dogs with really good game driven dogs

You're over simplifying, if only putting animals together was as easy as that.

lol working process its a hypothetical question but a serious one i was asking cuz i know their is a lot of people that do good breeding that have chosen a line and stuck with it with great success just trying to get others first hand knowledge on the subject

No matter what scenario you use until you put the dogs together and wait on them to mature you won't know the outcome and what their producing capabilities will be and how strong of a genetic influence the parents will push into the offspring we know that each pup will inherit half of the moms genes and half of the dads genes which traits the offspring get you won't know until time goes on. I think sticking to a simple plan like breeding best to best and hoping for a good outcome by breeding two top notch dogs would be the way to go. There are a lot of unknown variables that you can't see when sticking two dogs together all you can go by is what they show you and later on what they have proven to you as you breed them to different dogs you can get a better idea of what their producing capabilities will be. That is why time, trial and error, along with culling is crucial in any breeding program.

how do you know "people do good breeding". what your talking about ain't really hypothetical it's called genetics. so start with gregor mendel and his laws. the more you learn about genealogy and spend time experimenting then you will find answers for yourself.

there are far too many variables involved to answer your question to any certainty. If Dog A has all those traits does not necessarily mean he will throw those traits. The lazy dog when bred to the right dog may produce those 100MPH'ers you mentioned. The Mendel writings are good reads but are guidelines and theories. His writings can't tell you if Dog A will throw this or that to Dog E when bred to Dog B.
I had dogs off of and bred to a certain Bolio bred male. This dog stamped everyone of his offpsring except for one. Phenotypically consistent pups litter after litter. He threw well above average mouth when bred to Eli dogs, Redboy dogs, and other Bolio dogs. So after several breedings it could be said this particular dog will throw mouth 99% of the time. By no means does this mean all hard mouth dogs throw more hard mouth dogs, or all Bolio dogs throw hard mouth dogs, or even his own littermate brother. It just means this particular dog was dispositioned to throw hard mouthed dogs. The reason this was known was because he was bred several times to different bitches and that particular result was the same.
There is no formula or no book that will tell you what any individual dog will produce when bred to any other individual dog. It may work in nose color or coat color but not in mouth or ability or game. Just way too broad of a topic. If there were any guaranteed formulas out there we would all be using them and we would all have a yard full of the same dogs. S

Forget hard mouth, very dificeld to breed for. hard mouth is often confused with dogs that work out there holds very wel. a good working dog. and with that i meen a dog that loves to train/ conditionig , is 50% of your sucses in your pocket. iven if he is not the smartest thing that walks around. if gamennes/drive is equal!!.. il put mouth last place....

I agree 100% best to best should always be the way to go now we all now nothing is secreting with these dog but I believe that if you breed to a family you better you odds of producing higher quality dogs I guesses what I was getting at is how long and what style of breeding will it take to inbet a trait or trait's in to a family will the scenario I put work or has work in the past

this is a very true statement. I am a firm believer that mouth is over rated. Granted I would like for all my dogs to bite on a 10 like an absolute freak but it seldom happens that way. I am looking for a dog I believe will stay there first. Then I like the hard worker. On a scale of 1 to 10 if he bites like a 6 or 7, but works the hold with every fiber of his being I would like his odds.
