Well It took a little while, but I finally figured out what was causing his weight loss; tape worms. He has now been treated and quickly putting on weight. Here is an updated photo of him (Past and now):

He still needs to gain about 5 pounds. But he is doing great. Looks like this spring we will be able to for sure join the fun of recreational WP.

I'm glad I figured it out also Lee. I was seriously getting concerned because I was feeding him like 6 cups of food daily and he STILL wasn't gaining weight. It was only enough to sustain him at 40LBS. Now that he has been treated for the tape worms he now eats 2 cups of food and is still putting the weight he needs. He's also starting to tone up more. I'm sure the malnutrition had something to do with his muscles not properly developing even with running/walking/swimming training regiments.

Oh yes! Omg! He is a whole different dog. Loves to chase the flirt Pole and play with Snow. He is still food aggressive, but I have come to terms with that. He is turning into a very very nice young lad. I have noticed some structure issues, like he is flat footed and his heels turn in some. But other then that, he is a nice dog. Not really a bad pick up off the streets.

all i got to say is fish tape forte. i deworm w/ that stuff 2-5 times a year.

i hope you gave another round of meds for the tapes 2-3 weeks later. the first ones kill the adults then the 2nd one kills the eggs if not it wont be a definite good buy for the tapes.

I think he had them the whole time. I plan on going back to the vet and getting another couple tablets next week to give him just as a precaution.

I think I'll pass. I know people have suggested it before. But I don't personally have experiences with it, nor do I want to start. I know what will work and I will use it.

do that get both types of tapes? & what's the price of it? I use worm x or thriple wormer tabs right now works well. Valvazen is ok if used the right way but it only gets one type of the tapes & not a good idear to use on breeding gyps

Fish Tapes - Get Rid of Worms and Parasites on your Fish

its the same stuff as droncit and that will clean them out of all tapeworms. if your dog is 45+ pounds get the forte. you get 5 individual treatments with the fish flex forte. compare that to products like tape worm tabs that are $30 for one treatment. if they are under 45 lbs get the regular fish tape 34 mg and dose it following the droncit or tape worm tab medicine dosing guidelines. if the dog is 45+ pounds get the fish tape forte 170mg and only give 1 pill of that.

if the dog has tapes re-worm again no later than 3 weeks.

i dont use any of those product you mentioned for wormers. all i use is ivermectin 1% injectables and fish tapes. the dosage i give the 1% ivermectin is strong enough to kill off heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, mites etc... i give the ivermectin every month and the fish tape forte for my 45+ lbs dogs every 2-3 months as a prevention for tapes. i have never had tapes doing it that way. and if i was to go with tape worm tabs it would cost $240 to treat like that compared to $60 that i spend a year for my 2 dogs. and really you dont have to treat like that. you can just wait for it to appear then treat. i dont like that way though.
