Which females did carry the honeybunch, awesome baby or dolly legacy after those died, performance and/or produce ability wise? Just curious.

lol well none lol good question though i dont think any of them kicked a better producing female then they were thats not what im gettin at and as far as performance only 1 of those was a performer honeybunch awesome baby was cold and so was dolly until the age of i think it like 5-6 years old southern kennels said.

My point is, a really good bitch is still 50% sire/dam. So unless that bitch was result of a breeding program based in females, no one can prove that point.

Ok, you have to start somewhere but you would need at least 3 significant generations of bitches to prove the female's theory.

Off my head i can tell you 4 good generations of producers/performers. Redboy,Yellow John, Yellow and Mayday and many would put a 5th there.

PS: If i was a breeder and i had a very good bitch coming from good dogs, i would base part of my breeding program in her. But that would take lot of time and put some heavy stress on that bitch because i would need to breed her to several good studs to then, be able to pick the best representatives.

I just think its more easy to do the same with a stud, to fix the good traits and cull the undesirable ones.

Yeah, Honeybunch is the perfect example for my point, that bitch was breed to several good studs and produced several good dogs that are still being linebreed based in her. In fact, and i just like to read pedigrees, no personal experience but just curiosity, in the recent times the linbreed honeybunch dogs combined with other solid bloodlines (mainly based in males) are giving good results!!

Now, if a female... coming off Honeybunch stock, made a impact close to what HB did. That would be another another talk! That bitch would carry HB legacy.

no really not being sarcastic i mean she ended up coming out cause she won 3. Awesome baby was always cold and dolly was cold until like i said 5-6 years old. Got any clue when honeybunch actually fired up cause like i said she did win 3?

Thing is that a female can´t "produce" as many pups as a male!
Therefore percentages or Ch. or Gr. Ch.´s as direct offspring aren´t as many as if you have within a male.
Linebreeding is breeding on a certain dog, will it be a male or a female is technically the same.
Thing is that most of all people are more focused on the males anyways......
In my oppinion both, male and female are of the same importance.
So what is really the key in successfull breeding is that both male aswell as females are of equal importance and have to be at least of a decent quality out of quality dogs themselves.
Just take Black Widow into your consideration, you´ll find her in the peds of some all time greats.
If you want to start a serious breeding programm there is only one way to go:
Choose a high quality female of a high percentage line from a top quality kennel and look for the best producing male you can get to breed her too.
It´s simple but it´s also hard work......
You have to invest money and time as you have to do proper research and maybe have to be patient until you get what you want and you have to bee picky and not blind toward to your own material.

What Line to choose is not of major importance as long as you choose a line that resembles what you are looking for in a bulldog.

  18. Thanks for all the replies, it's really helpful.
To kind of explain a little better what I'm looking to do, knowing that it's hard work... When I started with Labs, I knew the kennel I wanted to buy my first bitch puppy from, I had done a lot of research on the Killingworth breeding program, really liked their dogs, and really liked what they had started with themselves. They had 3 great stud dogs that won numerous championships, and all stock led back to those stud dogs, as well as leading back to another kennel, Rupert, who was equally as influential on the breed with a great bitch line. So I got a female puppy from them, that led back to the 3 Killingworth stud dogs. She also lead back to an amazing bitch from the second kennel who could be traced directly to the Rupert foundation bitch. For me, she was perfect, she combined the bloodlines I was looking for... When it came time to breed her, I traced pedigrees back to the Rupert dogs.

I'm researching pedigrees on APBT now, burning the midnight oil... I know what I like to see in a dog, so I'm also going off that.

Thanks again for all the help.

that midnight oil is good shit i got a really good gyp who is all that many would want and has earned to right to be bred she is who i will be focusing half of my yard around yes its true that males can have more offspring but i believe that the female has more of an influence on them due to the amount of time that the dam spends with the pups when does the sire ever really spend time with his offspring off my first breeding i left the pups with the dam for 4 weeks than i started to seperate them unless they were being fed and i can tell you that them pups act just like the dam
