If you are using it for demodex, I am pretty sure most people give the oral Ivomec for that nowadays.

What are you using it for? I know where you can get it. However I need to know the reason why you are using it.

It is used in Vet Clinics for dipping for demodex Mange. However it is diluted down greatly.

Bulldoglover DO NOT GIVE HALF ASS MEDICAL ADVICE! You did not mention diluting it and you could have been the reason someone harms their animal!

DO NOT PUT IT ON A DOG WITHOUT DILUTING IT.

If you use Taktic It is 6cc per gallon of water. DO NOT GET IN EYES! Use mineral oil in the eyes and sponge it on.

Cynthia do they still use mitaban/amitraz as a first line of treatment for mange? I thought vet's didn't really use it much anymore. Or it was used as a last form of treatment if the Ivermectin doesn't work.

Ivermectin is the first choice for treatment.

Mitaban is used if the dog is having an adverse reaction from the ivermectin. Or for example we had a Rott that was on ivermectin for 3 months and was improving but not quite there. We started mitaban dips to give her a rest from the ivermectin.

Also if using ivermectin in conjunction with a follicle flushing shampoo such as pyoben. It will help flush the mites from the hair follicle.

Promeris is a once a month flea prevention. The active ingredient is Amitraz and some dogs have had great success with applying that every 2 weeks.

Never use mitaban/amitraz & ivomec at the same time. They are both the same kind of toxin and potentiate each other making it easier to posion the dog and have adverse reactions.

For the treatment of demodectic mange yes. It is either or. Hence the reason why I stated that mitaban is used if the dog is having an adverse reaction to the Ivermectin. Which would mean you would take the animal off the Ivermectin.

Mitaban/Amitraz does have carcinogenic properties and can be VERY toxic!

However Ivermectin can be used with Pyoben ( follicle flushing shampoo)

And if you are using Promeris you can still use an Ivermectin based heartworm prevention such as Heartgard and Iverheart.

But the common "off label" overdose of 1/10 per 10pds and same day dip would cause an adverse reaction.

Also if you are getting dips at your vet. Ask for Yohimbine. Amitraz can cause sedation in dogs. And the Yohimbine can reverse that. So some vets will pretreat with Yohimbine.

People have used it. However is the ivermectin working and that is why the dog's skin is clearing up. And has NOTHING to do with the Lintox. Lol

Here is a thought take the dog to the vet. Actually get a diagnosis of demodex. Before treating all willy nilly. Before loading your dog up with all these toxins.

MANY things can cause hair loss. Not just demodex.

Ok last famous words before we have to fix owners fuck ups. Lol especially if you have to come to an Internet forum to get medical advice.

So you plan on going back for recheck skin scrapings? Because if you stop treating to early then it can come back and usually worse. Usually they want you to treat till you get at least 2 negative skin scrapings.

And what meds are you on now? Because you can get Ivermectin over the counter at any feed store. If the vey has already prescribed you Ivermectin then you could continue your maintenance dose.

Slick no. Blunt yes. Sorry I do not coddle.

Expensive. You could have got Nu Stock for what $15 for a tube and it basically was the same thing.

There are 2 types of "mange" Sarcoptic (scabies) Which is contagious to people and other pets and then you have demodex which is a hereditary genetic immune issue ( non contagious). All dogs have Demodetic mange mite as a natural flora of the skin. When they break with demodosis is when they have an immune issue and that allows the mite to overpopulate. There are 2 very different treatments for both.

Did your dog have localized or generalized.

You still need to get the negative skin scrapings to make sure it is gone. And you can not tell by just looking at a dog. If you can not afford to properly take care of the dog then maybe you should rethink your ability to own a dog. Taking care of things is fine. If you know what you are doing. Rechecks skin scrapings should not cost you more than what $50-70.

Otherwise it will come back. And it is usually worse.

But hey your property your issue. Good luck!

  19. Thanks for all the replys we ordered some a few days ago. We've had him on nustock for about 2months and it has helped, but hasn't completely knocked it out the way mitaban did with the other dog.
