    Thanks all, I take strength from the fact that my Dad is no longer suffering. He had a full life (75 years) surrounded by love. The cancer was aggressive so he did not have to deal with it for very long. A small blessing, but one I am thankful for.

    He was estranged from his only surviving family member (sister) since '86, it was a difficult call to make. Many regrets were voiced and now it's to late to repair their rift.

    If you have a loved one that you have lost contact with over something benign, please take the time to reconnect. You never know when your opportunity to do so will disappear.
