Creating The Pecking Order?

Well that makes sense. They're only separated when I'm not home. It's not become necessary to keep them separate with my supervision as of yet and hoping not to have to do that. Boss gets along with other dogs quite well except if they try to take his food or challenge him. I am hoping this little pup won't challenge him (not. Concerned about the food they'll never have a chance to fight over that) but I'm not banking on it judging from what I've seen so far.

    Thx for your input :)

To me this is whats messing up these dogs all these folks wanting pet bulls

Im not sayn anythings wrong wit socialization
But people give these dogs to much privilage and trust
So what happens if your apbt decides it wants tobe solo dog and realy hurts your other dog

    What then

Or have you totaly dismissed that it may happen

exactly. on my previous post i wasnt saying just let em decide for themselves, cuz then you are gonna have fights, no matter what. and yes, i have had multiple dogs in the house, but it takes a special animal to know that "housetime" shared with another dog ISNT "go time". this is a tough subject cuz its so much easier to just put em on chainspots ans save yourself the headache.

  4. Has Boss ever REALLY been attacked? You say he is cold, which certainly can happen - but with this breed sometimes all it takes is one altercation and a dog that previously was not walking around actively looking for a fight suddenly has a vendetta to settle with every dog he sees.

I'm just saying, I would not count on Boss being "cold" to save you from any troubles, all it could take is your female Presa pissing him off enough one day and... well then you know the rest of the story.

Instead of worrying about forcing them to get along with dog pecking order magic, how about you focus on responsible separation when you are not around (and responsible interaction management if you really want them together when you are around)? I'm really hoping you are not asking about this pecking order thing so you can leave your dogs alone together. Even if you have the 2 coldest dogs in the world they should be on separate chains, in kennels, or crates when you are not around to watch like a hawk.

BINGO! and only only only ever reward total calm. pitbulls + excitement = fight.

i know a lady who thought she could keep two Cold pitbulls, and she recently took two near dead pitbulls to the hospital because she couldn't seperate them. she thinks they fought over trash.

My dogs peck seperately in there own chain spots. Feeding bulldogs together is asking for trouble period. If it aint shoot youre dogs and start over lol

I have a big cold male and a bitch I kept as housedogs. I got the bitch at 7 months. She was raised with him and she has always ben cool with the big dumb cold guy but is hot with everything elts includeing pups etc.
Things went that way for 4 years. With only occasional scraps witch I was on top of and never let turn serious. (never have 2 bulldogs out in the house with chilldren present) These spats became more and more frequent untill recently i had to put the bitch on the Chain. She decided she wanted some of the big Guy lol. Now I dont know how mutch of this has to do with dominance per say. Dommanince was established along time ago. The big guy knows his place and never challanges her in any way. She just decided one day she wanted her buddy dead lmao. Bulldogs will be bulldogs.

  8. Sounds to me like the OP is in for a serious incident one day

  10. Sounds like it to me too, hopefully that will not happen though.

I agree with RedGoodbye in that I do not think dominance has anything to do with pit bulls desire to fight or love for a good scuffle.

Establishing a pecking order might work for a breed that was not created for the sake of canine combat, but with a fighting breed it isn't about dominance any longer.

Yesh not sure if you missed the post where I said they are separate when I'm not around? But don't worry I don't want to come home to a dead dog! lol

They get along fine NOW. But, I am not just assuming they will always get along, that's why I was asking about this whole creating the pecking order business. I never believed you could create the pecking order, I was always under the impression that you can't but some trainers I've talked to say that you CAN. So wanted some thoughts on the subject.

And yeah Boss has been attacked a few times. A lot when he is muzzled by other dogs walking by with their idiot owners not paying attention. Once by an Cocker Spaniel who got away from his owner (how the HELL do you let a Cocker Spaniel get away from you?) He can't fight back with the muzzle but he will and has faught back without one.

I fostered a female Bullmastiff cross for a couple of months who was very submissive. She attacked Boss one day which was quite odd for her and he faught back. I broke it up waited a bit then went to re-introduce the dogs and she was on him again. She ended up back in rescue (long story).

He was also attacked by a male boxer which was my fault. I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize the boxer's owner had put his food out and Boss decided to stick his face in the Boxer's dish. As soon as I heard them I ran out and yelled to him and him came running inside tail tucked.

Oh and they are certainly NOT fed together. One in the crate to eat at a time. The other with me in another room.

Lets face it dogs have limited memory . so wile you can try to show dogs who you want in pecking order like human first & might be able to get dogs to perform in away that they seem to submit to each other in the order you want . Eventually when you are not there some thing will go down and the fake king or queen will not have you to back them up The truth will shin and thats it.

  14. Same here. Although different breed, my Rottie doesn't mess with my girls, for him they always come first. He's a real ladies' man, and a momma's boy. But get a male dog between him and his food/treats/me and it's on. He thinks he's a bulldog.

And of course sweet Ladybug gets what she wants.:D

  15. LOL, or you can bust your ass and pick out dogs who's personalities compliment each other. God that sucked.

Fuck I wish I had room for multiple chain spots.

  16. In theory, you can create the pecking order. Granted, it could work a lot of the time that you're around, but honestly, dogs will be dogs, and shit happens. Which is why you must always be prepared.

I'm convinced my 3 only get along because their personalities mesh well together. Between a lazy LAZY LAZY dog, a somewhat high strung dog, and one who wants nothing but to please his mom (my Rottie's big on making ladies happy), they mesh well. Add another dog into the mix, and they're all at each other's throats and have to be separated. I think in the 2+ years I've had my dogs, we've had maybe 2 scuffles under close supervision. But I attribute that to luck.
