    Hi all,

My pup went to the vet on Tuesday to have a wellness check, start her de-worming and to have a fecal exam. The results came back last night that she has ring worm and giardia.

Boss (my adult APBT) is free of parasites. Everything she drinks he drinks and vice versa. She's not able to wander outside yet as it is too cold for her so she doesn't come on walks with Boss and I. Plus, I picked her up exactly one week and one day after symptoms of giardia appeared. This in mind, I have asked the breeder to cover the cost of the treatment, the follow up fecal exam as well as covering cost of my adult dog becoming infected if that does happen (so far so good, though).

He has told me it is not his fault and that no one else has advised him the other pups have it. That's his whole argument even though it seems he didn't have any of the pups checked when they got their first set of shots.

Is this an unreasonable request? I thought it was more a gesture of good will considering this should have been found and treated before the pup went home with me, right? I'd like to know your thoughts. Thx!

I agree that your request is reasonable, but why buy the dog if you could visibly see that it was sick?

You sign any paperwork from the breeder? When I got my am bulldog, the breeders paper work required me to get the dog checked within 2 weeks to verify nothing was wrong with the pup at the time of purchase. If there was something wrong I could return the pup for full refund or keep the pup and pay to treat it myself.

I agree it is a reasonable request but can't do much without a contract, guess take him to small claims court.

The pup gets the Girardia from the mom. Same thing happened to me with my male and the breeder basically told my to pound sand.couldn't really do anything there where out of state...

Are you saying the pup showed symptoms 1 week and a day after you picked her up?

If so how is a breeder going to diagnose and treat a pup that has not shown symptoms?

Isnt it a little late to cry now? Some people have thier mechanic check cars out before buying. Why didnt you make an agreement and have your vet check the pup out first? Then decide to buy or not. If so and then something comes up its on you. Get everything out in the open and up front before doing the deal. Then you can say "A deals a deal" No finger pointing then. Just take care of the situation and chalk it up to experiance. Learn from it.

that giardia was caught in your possession not at the breeders house if the dog did not show signs of it when you bought him. giardia is most commonly transmitted through fecal matter meaning that your pooch might be eating up all that chocolate pudding! it can also be brought into your house on your shoes and your adult dogs paws. chances are your pup ate something off the floor that had come into contact with an infected dogs feces.

    Thx for your input!

    To answer a few questions:

First I guess I should have stated that the symptoms of Giardia appear 1-2 weeks after infection. Her symptoms began to rear their disgusting head one week and one day after I picked her up. So it's pretty unlikely she was infected in my care. Kind of a long shot.

The pup did not "look sick" beause there were no symptoms.

The contract states the pup will have all vaccinations and deworming appropriate to her age.

How would they know if she had it? They should have had a fecal exam done when she got her first set of shots to check for parasites.

I'm not going to take him to cour and waste my time. I was just really surprised at his response to this. Basically saying "eff you" but covered in sugar.

Appreciate the input! Wanted to hear other dog owners thoughts on this before any further communication with him.
