just going back to the point about brindle, does colour have any bearing, should it have any bearing on what the dog could turn out like, from kingfish to skipper to cusrtopper, just wanted to know what people thought, big d wrote an article about colour in breeding, what weight does that article hold?

if he ed reid was the first to bring these dogs into the main stream then that means he took a chance importing them and settin up a kennels which lets face it if your gonna be taking on such an operation you run it as a business, breed for families and game dogs on the side etc i dont agree with this 100% but i can see the logic behind the man had to protect his investment and have funds to get new blood into the country. JMO of course nd i could be way off. but love this thread been a very good read!

 

Some very good dogs and a good few champions and some formidable curs but even those curs produced top dogs

Nearly everyone who had the apbt back in those days had a reid bred dog. That makes sense
considering he was the first to introduce the breed here.

My own first initiation was via the reid dogs and it just blew me away. Ofcourse any so called
'Line' is only as good as the breeder, and ed reids interest lay in preserving his bank balance
not his 'line'.

Her is our 2 cents. The Reid skipper blood died out becuase the bloodline produce a lower % of gamer dog(note Gamer).
The Skipper blood was the most bred blood in the UK back then. If ed reid and the people who bought those first gens of dogs had selected hard and the way it should have been done from the get go, then the skipper dogs would have lasted a lot longer and would proble be around today.
Unfortunatle they where peddling this blood from day one!!..

We found that the skipper dogs where umongst some of the best ours faced in those days on the island.
Dogs like max and sheena black DID Quit tho. As did our Ch dutch bitch against a Reid bred bitch.
all sides have ecscuses including our side. Nevertheless they wher a cut above the rest.
The rezen why the Limey dogs lasted longer then any other famely in europe uptil today, was because the unbeliveble high% of quality game dogs and selection proses + the FORSIGHT back then to know where publick upinon whould leed to. plans where made and operations like International rescue 1 and 2 where ecsecuted to save this famely.
Today the blood have been around in diferend contignends and is strong. They should have done the same ting with the Skipper blood. unfortunatly in those days those guys where stuck to the island...... and didnt think outside the box...last but not least those skipper dogs could breath under water............... as usual forgive me spelling..ps for the oldtimers.Picture included from the last breeding of Nelis rom x Tug Rom
