Down here a treadmill will get you in a bind, but a leash sure won't lol. I'm all about walking. There is just a lot more possibilities in variation, but the downside is the wear and tear on their feet. If you are really trying to work a dog you probably need both.

I always found handwalking and the bike a great way to exercise.Once the dog learns to pace itself by the side of the bike you can get a good rhythum going and introdce sprints along the way. As you enter the home straight you can introduce longer sprints. The only factor is not to over work the dog,and keep your eyes on the dogs pads if any sores or splits then use leather boots for dogs. Nothing has to be complicated , its just common sense.

I've just recently introduced biking into her exercise regime, but admittedly I don't get out as
much as I'd like. I've bought one of them devices called walkydog , she pulls for about
10 mins and then I peddle around 10, I'm the one who gets sloshed before she does
But its great for gettin them nice and lean.

Are you sure? I do 40mins with my dogs on the bike, and it's 4miles... How does it take you only 40mins to do 20K?

    that's about 12miles?

the way it was told to me, look at a dog in the wild, look at his gait at natural liberty, they trot and jog, a dog is made his anatomy that when he runs he breathes in air by the way his mussels move it forces air in his lungs. Walking is unnatural for the dog, the dog does not naturally breathe in as he walks, he has to work for it. This unnatural movement is the real work out because he uses his legs in a lateral movment meaning that the front and rear leg on each side move in the same direction at the same time. a dog wants to trot while at liberty, because it's a easier movement for the dog by the way he is made even though it's a faster movement.

The up hill down hill is the best for hand walking and to get in the best shape 10 miles a day will get him there.

    Ah, good point.

If I had more than one dog that would be a concern with out current laws and public opinion here.

Ive actually been looking into that walkydog myself. Are you satisfied with it?

Bronxxx - VERY satisfied. She actually put on a bit of weight as I wasn't taking her
out as much, this was just after july. I started walking her a few miles daily and
Using the walkydog device a few times a week.

She looks awesome now. Its easy to attach and detach, and is solid piece of kit.
If ur fit and used to biking, u sure can bring one in shape np with this. Great
    Piece of kit.

Jenny,Treadmill,Biking, etc. are all great but in my opinion, handwalking is the best because you yourself are getting exercise as well. Also handwalking is testament to what kind of a dogman you are. Anyone can put a dog on the treadmill or on the jenny but a real dogman gets down and dirty with their dog. I run with my dog and when he's on the springpole, I'm doing pull ups. I also switch it up from the springpole workout to tug and also utilize the flirtpole. Along with this, I also have a weighted collar and a weighted best for him. However, if you are going to use a weighted collar or a weighted vest, you really have to know what you are doing or you risk injuring your dog.

I wonder why more folk don't use it. When u consider mills and their prices, and for a
measly 50 dollars or 25 pound, u can achieve the same results which is not as
    Boring as a mill.

If your dog pulls like a bat out of hell then this type of training is great while using
    Device

I like the idea of 'weighted vest' while biking with her, any pointers NSD ?

The fact my dogs pull and lunge at anything that moves is what made me put off ordering one...But now that Ive spoken to someone who is satisfied with their expierience with it, I just might stop procrastinating ;)

you will stay stable on the bike, its designed so that all the forces of
Lunging pulling etc are directed towards and through the steel frame
of the bike. Mountain bikes are best imo.

The walkydog attachment ie, the rope can be changed lengthened or
Shortened depending on size of your dog. I put it round her collar, that's
the only way she will use it, she hates the harness,

Before I got this I just tied her to the handlebars, it worked great and I had
Her pull me and the bike for about 2 miles, that's about 220 lbs lol.
Until I almost broke my neck so the safety aspect is assured.
    Good luck.

Well if you're going to use weighted vests, don't start off with heavy weights. Also don't get a vest that's too long or too lose since they'll bump the elbows of the dog. How many lbs. is the dog and how tall is the dog at the withers? Also how wide is the dog? The weight of the dog will give you an idea of how many lbs. the dog should start off with initially and the height of the dog and how wide the dog will determine the size of the vest you're going to get.

Hand walking seems to be very important to Greyhound conditioning, I figure this must be for good reasons.
