Certain animals are raised for food, certain ones aren't. The ones for food still need to be treated humanely during their lives and as they are killed. No excuse for what industrial farming does to these poor creatures (old school US farmers did not do the kind of nonsense that big agri-business does). Just because it is an animal that will eventually die for food, does not mean its life is a total throw-away - it can have a decent quality of life until the end, and our farms used to give that good life back in the day.
The ones not for food also have the right not to be abused or maltreated.

Animals are property.I choose to take care of my property the best I can,but if the next guy chooses not to,then that's his business.I have a house but if I want to throw rocks through all my windows then that's my concern regardless how stupid it is.Same with other property.Why is a dog higher on the animal scale than cows,chickens etc?Who has that right to decide?I can take a chicken,ring his neck and eat the chicken,try that with a cat or other "pet type' animal and people would have a fit.Any animal can be a pet,so it's best to call them all property and let the owner decide what they want to do with them.Some will be treated good,some bad but that's just the way things go.

See how you have a right to your opinion on religion... What if someone sacrifice's animal's in their religion...

You still are talking about morals when you talk about what should be...

Make a practical constitutional legal argument. Show me one state where animal's aren't personal property.

Its not an animals right not to be abused,it is the humans responsibility not to abuse.
Humans can't even control the abuse humans dish out to other humans how do we expect to police their treatment of animals.

GH, I believe you when you say you take good care of your animals and I appreciate that. But same as with laws about murdering humans, you can't assume that people will always do the right thing. If there weren't laws, some people would never murder; however, I see pieces of crap on the subway every day I'd love to kick in front of a train. Same with treating animals well - you and I treat ours well, but there are pieces of $hit who abuse and that needs to be looked after in my opinion.

ADM, there's a big difference between it being illegal to abuse animals Vs. them taking our guns and freedoms away. Let's not mix issues my friend.

If hunting is for trophies, I don't think it is right - you and I probably disagree on that one ADM.
If hunting is for survival, killing is quick and every piece of the animal is used, then I'm fine with it.

With all the really bad animal abuse cases out there, I don't have much faith in people doing the right thing. They seriously need to face consequences, otherwise they'll do whatever they please.
