Agreed, look at "every" other well bred breed of dog, $1000 and up.
"Well bred" bull dogs are a bargain people! The game bred APBT is arguably the best breed alive today! It is just that most bull dog owners have always been, blue collar, cheap a$$, minimum wage thinkers. And they usually try to make the good breeders feel guilty if he wants to make a fair profit for his time and effort. I make good money at what I do, "and it's not breeding". And if a breeder spends most of his life breeding quality animals. He should be able to price his animals accordingly. It is a shame but, BYB's seem to get almost as much for their junk, as the professional. JMO.

I paid 1000 for my female off thug? She will hit anything that gets in her way. Shit happens. I think most people r afraid to ask a fair price for a apbt these days cause its not a peddlers market Ive seen pups off rom dogs ch for 500-700 the last few yrs...10 yrs ago people were selling them for 1000-1500. Normal folk dont have much disposable income these days. Im not referring to the people in China who r throwing down 100k on dogs the mass majority. If u cant find a well bred pup for4- 500 today your not looking in the rt places.

I don't necessarily like high prices, but realistically they're not THAT high. $500? $600? $1k? Think about the risk involved in keeping PROVEN dogs... somebody has to PROVE them! And when the police and HSUS come knocking it could cost them ALOT more than whatever you're paying to buy a pup from them. There's more heat on the people who are still active in dogs and a lot have gotten out of dogs or closed themselves off from the rest of the world because of this. No one wants to go to jail...

And like many others have said, its supply&demand. If the stuff is really top notch, then someone else who has the money is probably going to shell out $1k for a pup even if you won't. And as long as they do, there's no reason for them to ask any less for a pup.

I say raise'em higher & thin out the newbs & backyard pedigree geniuses !! Can't keep'em ? Don't breed them !! I'll sell one on occasion or farm to friends but I can guarantee the next Maurice Carver ain't on this site or any others ! If you breed dogs it ought to COST a small FORTUNE to get one away from you ! You oughta be at least that PROUD !! Folks are trying to pump litter after litter out of these dogs to pay their mortgage and car payments and scratch their head when Ms. Wonderful has a prolapsed uterous & they have a half a dozen guys wanting their $300 back because they bought a flat out ass CUR ! Damn dogs are like GOLD !! KEEP THE RATES HIGH or GET OUT OF THE GAME !! LOL !!

If you don't want to pay a fair price for a pup you can always Purchase several acres of land and a house in BFE, give up your current lifestyle, put a vet on the payroll, build kennels, dog houses, and all the supplies, invest in at least 2-3 top bloodlines you like and have enough individual dogs to make breedings, make all the sacrifices necessary to run a reasonable size yard, buy dog food by the ton, and work tirelessly a minimum of 5 hours per day maintaing the operation 24-7 - 365 with no vacation. This is not to mention all the other costly things you will encounter, including legal, legislative and insurance issues. Put a pencil to it and see if you will save yourself any money. A stack for a well bred pup is a bargain. Keep in mind a breeder will feed and care for a brood bitch her entire life and be lucky to get three litters off her. What do you think a great brood bitch or Stud dog is worth???

The bright side is if you don't like the price a breeder asks for his pups you can always adopt one or find a back yard deal for less. No one is twisting anyones arm or holding them at gunpoint. If a breeder asks more than someone is willing to pay for a pup he will be left with a litter of dogs to care for.

actually it sounds more like the life and times of T.G lol. but really that sounds more like the description of a person out to make more money back than that was spent aka a profit. dont get me wrong i caint hate a person for making some money. but their are some who have 50 - 100 dogs and dont have what that guy mentioned and wont even sell you a dog.

There are allot of easier ways to make money Bud, Trust me. Most serious breeders of this breed don't sell to the public and shouldn't IMO, however if they do, its their business and they ought to be able to ask what they want for a pup. It's up to the person interested to decide if the price is right for them or not.

If your not going to do anything with these dogs then why pay the price for one? You can't complain if anyone is selling dogs for a certain amount. If I know a dog is going to produce then I'll spend the money. Go somewhere else and get a dog but the results could be the same. 500 or 5,000...still could be a cur ass mutt!
How about this? Get in good with a kennel you like. Help them out, walk, feed, water, watch, pick up after there dogs. Be a weekend warrior for them and when a litter drops from a dog(s) you really like, ask them how much are they selling them for. If you have worked for them a while, they trust you, know they can breed to your dog if he works out to be an awesome bulldog and they are good people (this is key). You could probably get one for a lot better price than any tom, dick or harry who shows up at their yard asking to buy a pup.
I'll say this, If I were breeding dogs for any reason and you volunteered to help me. I would have no problem helping you with the price. Hell I might give you a good pup or 2! If you worked for me long enough.
Those who put in the work, reap the benefits...sorry for spelling.:D

That is true. A lot of people don't want to put in work. I started off keeping a yard of animals for my folks. I did it for 2 years. Taking care of pups helping with the animals that were there getting them ready for the agility and weight pull shows. I was getting to keep a pup or two off every breeding while I was scraping up ends buying young prospects. Believe me it's not fun when you've got a yard of animals and only two or three are yours. But it's to the point now that they come and ask me what I'm breeding and can they get something off my breeding. Some of you guys have got to earn your stripes. You get different prices depending on who you know. And in my opinion most animals from a guy that's working his own animals and doing well are better than the real big time breeders. But you're going to have to pay with either time or money. If you don't like it keep breeding what you got and stay in the slow lane.
