SALINAS, Calif.- A man and his dog were attacked by a pitbull in Salinas Wednesday.
John Gay said he was walking his three chihuahuas like always when a 14-yr. old boy lost control of the pitbull he had on a leash, and it lunged for the one dog Gay had picked up.
"Lucky," is lucky to be alive after the pitbull bit its leg. Gay said he put his hand in the dog's mouth to try and unlock his jaw. His finger was dislocated and he had cuts all over his face and hands.
After being released from the hospital and getting Lucky back from the vet to recover, Gay says he doesn't blame the kid or the dog. He hoped the pitbull was not put to sleep; it will be quarentined for 10 days. The dog had all of its shots and was registered with the city.
Gay says it was truly an accident, and he hopes people can learn to from it. He says a "pet is only as good as its owner," saying the young boy shouldn't have been walking such a strong dog.

the guy should have had his keys on him...would have made it easier for him to "unlock" the dog's jaws. Such b.s. Who the hell lets a 14 year old kid walk any powerful breed dog by himself?

At least that guy is realistic. the worse thing owners with small dogs can do is pick them up like that. it triggers the prey drive in the oncoming dog and puts the person themselves in danger, though saying that Its a natural reaction to pick up a small dog, that's why the guy got bit and he knows that so kudos to him for that.
14 year old boy should not have been walking that pit bull no way that's where the fault lies imo.:(

Same one that lets them skip school, back talk elders, talk like, man and bro and dude are the only three words in their vocabulary

I call'em Hood Rats, they come in all colors and no neighborhood
in the world is safe from them.
They range in age from 8 to 26 and can sometimes be found as old 34-40.
Generally they dont live long, their low self esteem and high prey drive
often have them planted shortly after they "pack-up" with the "Homies"

Any how . . . . . its good to see the incident wasn't all that bad

With all respect, it appears that this particular hood rat's dog was up to day on shots/veterinary care, and was duly registered and in compliance with his city's rules. This doesn't sound like your typical "low self-esteem hood rat" to me, but, then again, we all have our own definitions.

obviously the dog was provoked by them little
ankle biters, it does say if the man had his three on a leash

as far as 14 being to young to handle a grown dog is bullcrap
Ive been handleing them every since I was 10 without a problem
now I might go as far as to say the wrong 14 yearold was handleing the dog

14 year olds should not be out walking bulldogs.
the statement was the pit bull was on a leash / Not the others were off leash.
lol..and at 10 year old i guarantee you would not have been able to handle one of mine around another dog.
my kids grew up around these dogs and they know them well, would i have let them take one out the yard at that age NO WAY.
