A man we all learned to respect and honor.;)

    Quoted from Pat Patrick:

I have owned game dogs since1968 I got my first really good dog's, Patrick's Tater and Patrick's Faith from keith Allen. Tater and Faith were heavy Clouse's Saber, Tater beat Carver's Rastus in 1970. Patrick's Henry (Tater-Faith) beat Sorrell's Red Jack and Patrick's Tuffy(Tater-Faith) beat Sorrell's Safire in 1971. In the early 70's I had Patrick's Tombstone and Indian Bolio in my yard. Bolio was bred by Eddie Klaus and Maurice Carver. Tombstone was bred by Don Maloney. Tombstone and Bolio became the biggest part of my breeding program. Tombstone died young but Bolio lived to 13 and I really loaded up on his blood.

I bred daughters of Bolio to Tombstone and daughters of Tombstone to Bolio. The percentage of good to great dogs that came from these breedings was very high. I bred Bolio to my Tater-Faith bitches and a daughter of (Caver's) Ironhead and a daughter of Davis' Boomerang. He sired great dogs from all of the these breedings. Bolio bloodlines can be inbred with good results. Commander Whitehead was 7/8th Bolio and he beat a two time winner from Maurice Carver's yard. Some of the best I ever saw came from the Bolio-Faith breeding. The best known are Chen-leng (Maloney said he was the best dog he ever saw after conditioning him to a win in Texas), and Ch Princess. Almost all the Bolio blood and the Tombstone blood in the world today came directly or indirectly from my yard in Arizona. The dogs I have sold have always been of high quality. I am bery proud of the success my dogs have had and I worked very hard to achieve this success. I have bredd more Champions and Grand Champions than any other breeder past or present. My dogs have done very well on the Register of Merit list. Tombstone,Homer, and Bolio became Register of Merit in my yard. Bull Boy Bob and Red Baby were born in my yard and became ROM. Otter's Ch Tonka Bear, Boyle's Dirty Mary, and Gr Ch Buck were bred in my yard and made ROM for their new owners. Other ROM dogs that carry a lot of my blood are Boyle's Ch Bolt Action, Lee's Ch Reno, Boyle's Limited Edition, and Hollingworth's Dolly. Gr Ch Buck, Gr Ch Ozo Azul and Gr Ch Hope came from my yard. Gr Ch's that carry a large amount of my blood are Hall's Andy Capp (7/8 my bloodlines), Lardnier's Bronson, Grit's Hell Ben, Baby Huey's Red Eagle, and Abraham's Queen of Hearts (all 1/2 my breeding), and Southern Kennel's MayDay. The dog's I have sold have been successful all over the USA and all over the world. This includes Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia, Well known breeders other bloodlines often use my dogs to compliment their own line. Rushing Bill's new Handsome line is based on the Handsome dog I exported to Holland. Otter used Tonka Bear and Indian Moon as a big part of his yard. Ozzie Steven's purchased Ch Rastus and Ch Tammy from me.
Sorrell's Ch Shaft came from my yard via stud service.
Hollingsworth's dogs were based almost entirely on my dog's. The great breeder Ronald Boyles used my dogs as a big part of his breeding program. Tom Garner, another prominent breeder of today, often uses dogs of my breeding; Frisco is 25% my breeding. Windy City Combine uses alot of Patrick bred dogs in their breeding program. The dogs I have today are of the same type breeding I've always has because they work. The largest concentration of Bolio blood is still right here in Arizona.

    Just some memories I wanted to share!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Short story told to me by an adba judge. Back when he used to "do" dogs in the 70's he sent a bitch to PP to breed to Tonka. Instead of breeding to Tonka PP walked his bitch over to the closest random male on his yard and bred her to him. A witness told this man what happend, sure enough when the pups were born they were not off Tonka. He was pi**ed. He sent the bitch back to him next heat and made him video the breeding the next time. This was brought up in a conversation about "honest" dog men and why many dog men hung papers and became liers after the became famous. It was an intresting story and it was not the only story told to me that day. So PP is not alone in this and like I said he put out some amazing dogs through the years even if the papers werent completly true on some of them.

Thanks for the info, I have no reason to believe or dis believe the story though so im neutral, I have no idea I was'nt there.;)

Of course these kind of things happen but I ask my self why would someone choose a random dog over the one you expect to be the stud dog?
Also if it is true then its kinda stupid to put the bitch to a totally different marked dog? surely if you had the amount of dogs pp had you would [if you wanted to avoid studding Tonka] for whatever reason you would use a similar marked dog at least.

Also there are always people who wanna shoot a successful person down, whatever His field.:) [I dont mean you btw] maybe the guy who told you the story?

this is true of just about every breeder. someone always 'knows' what soemone else does, how I do not know? I have run straight patrick dogs as well as them cossed on redboy, and liked them all, well most of them. Hung papers really mean nothing when performing dogs is your goal. You'll fix that in time. When breeding dogs, or trying to recreate 20-30 years of history I guess the paperwork becomes more important.
On the flip side, had a well known guy in the south come breed to one of our bolio dogs. This male samped every dog he ever threw, regardless of the bitch. He bred to him and she didnt take. So, he bred to him again. She didnt take. He asked about another bitch. I said OK, this dog had one. Two years later we were at a cookout and saw one that looked just like our stuff. Asked about him and he came from that same prominent breeder, and this guy has three or four of his 'siblings'. So there are many ways to hang papers.
At first I was got away with, but then I figured it is part of the dogs. I was happy 'my dogs' were doing it regardless of their paperwork. It does suck, and I wish it wasn't so prevalent, but it is easily fixed. S.

Thanks for the post JBlaze! Arguably holds his status amongst dogmen ranking second only to Mr. Floyd Boudreaux. Damn shame what happened to the old timer last year! Blood from the dogs that came off or were bred off of his yard will always remain, and that's a fact jack.

When I first got started years ago the guy that turned me on to dogs use to say, "Son, if you are not going to be real smart, get yourself a Bolio dog"....That was right after he explained to me that there no such things as stupid questions...just stupid people who ask questions....
I have been more than satisfied with the majority of the Bolio dogs I have owned. S.

yeah i heard something about foul play but it was more along the line of bolio being stolen and thats how pp got him and with a stolen dog the only way i could think of to get his ped is to hang paper on him but i wasnt there so i dont know forshure
BUT THEM BOLIO DOGS ARE SOME GOOD ONES A MAJORITY OF THE TIME

  17. BmoreGame

Yes its common knowledge that Bolio wuz stolen from his previous owner n PP felt no obligation to return him due to personal experiences.

Well that is a bunch of doo doo. I have to be polite but I know better. There are a lot of these so called 'stories' and they are just trashfests. The hanging papers thing is another lie. These kind of posts are harmful and untrue. ADBA judge huh? Is that supposed to give this credibility? Biting my tongue and being polite as possible.

Well they say " Tall Trees Gather a lot of Win". So do famous breeders. There is always going to the element that tells tales that are total fabrications. It gets so off the charts it really makes one wonder about these folks, that in nearly all cases, no one ever met, much less did any business with them.

Its funny people always have a story after the fact.Nobody comes forward at the beginning to say hey this is how the dog is really bred, or what happen. Now in one case Rocca wanted to breed to Boomer and Baker said son u can breed to old Boomer but his papers is wrong and this is how he is bred. Now Baker said it uo front to Frank and Frank made the choice from there. In the 80's people was always throwing stuff out there and see what sticks. You have to ask yourself why would someone do some underhanded stuff like that with witnesses right there? Bottom line is u don't know it to be true unless you was there at the time.Pat bred some good ones and people bred good ones from Pat's stock.
