John Goodwin Speaks Out

John Goodwin, manager of animal fighting issues for HSUS, said, "I saw these dogs, and in fact handled many of them while they were being evaluated. These dogs would most certainly kill any other dog they could get to.
"It is very sad that people are also missing the bigger story, that our work has shut down one of the top breeders of fighting dogs in the United States. Dogfighters are seeing their heros go to prison. This is having an effect, and many dogfighters are leaving that world behind as they recognize the cost of doing business is too great. HSUS is the only organization in the United States that has an entire campaign that works full time on animal fighting issues.
"I support pit bull rescue, but there has to be a group that goes farther and hits at the root of the problem. That is what we are doing by putting leaders in the dogfighting criminal underworld out of business.
"Lastly, Wilkes County euthanizes 3,000 healthy, adoptable animals a year simply because there are not enough good homes opening their doors to these needy animals. I find it disturbing that the groups clamoring for media attention over these 127 dogs raise no fuss, and offer no assistance, for the other 3,000 dogs put down in that county each year."

This entire situation was simply disgusting, and now this pig is fighting for the last word. I hope the public wises up- these devils are no friends of ours!

May those dogs rest in peace, as I can almost guarantee their final moments were anything but calm and dignified. Bulldogs deserve better.

So you got lucky this time and actually made something stick on Ed Faron, what about Floyd Boudreaux and Pat Patrick ? Seems all of thier dogs died at your hands and they were not guilty, but yet you killed thier dogs anyways...how come ? For someone who claims to be doing the right thing you clearly screwed the pooch on those raids and made no apologies about it when you should have. Now its obvious to me that anyone who was remorseful or compassionate about animals would be filled with guilt for killing innocent animals but yet you keep right on doing it, so how should the APBT community take that ? Who has not ever seen a litter of pups play and growl and bite at that age. This guy spews anything out of his mouth to his defence.
Even two pups that were in foster care to be nursed back to health were brought back to be killed.

Goodwin and company also pushed for the death of the Vick dogs. Look where they are now! Hector has made it as a therapy dog and I hope others will follow suit.

I wish I could just pick the man's mind. Goodwin, one question (Since you're probably reading this...), do you not see the lack of a marginal gap between a "fighting dog" and any other ol' bulldog? Dog aggression? Who cares! It's more than manageable and is visible in all breeds! All dogs can be expected to have "issues", it's a matter of who is willing to work with these issues and for God's sake, all of the "big name" pit bull rescues stepped forward! Even small-time individuals such as my self offered a home for at least one of these dogs. That is what infuriates me the most. In the other cases, folks didn't bother to step forward. Yet, the dogs are still screwed even when good folks rise up and offer them a chance at a new life.

Tell me, how is this fair? How is this "being for the dogs"? Because, Goodwin, if you ask me- this seems like just another notch in your belt and another nail in the coffin for my breed of choice.

IMO as long as they sell Dobermans, GSD, Rotties, aso...which have the potencial to be HA against strangers and very protective the least bit of concern should be the DA of a people loving pitbull!

So all the claims of this man that "the dogs wanted to bite/kill other dogs" don't validate the need to kill them and not try to rehome them with people WHO KNOW HOW TO RAISE/KEEP THE BREED!

 

Why is no one saying SO WHAT to his reasoning for killing these dogs? So what if this breed is dog (or for that matter animal) aggressive? MANY dog breeds would not hesitate to kill another dog or animal. John Goodwin, that is why we have LEASH LAWS. If this simple law was truly enforced, NO dogs would be killed by our pets.

Moreover, if we were to run a statistic of dog attacks on animals and humans in the residential circumference of Floyd or Pat's yard, how many "attacks" would their dogs be accountable for? I bet NONE. If there were dog attacks, the likelihood of them being from strays is great.

If HSUS is concern about 'vicious' dogs, they should start with dogs/breeds bred to be human aggressive.

I just do not understand why reporters do not ask the HARD questions. Rather than an interview, it seems these reports are more of a purposely orchestrated podium for Johnny Goodwin to speak half-truths to the public.:cool:

 

Laura Allen is the Director....she's part of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.....while they may "publicly" support the breed, I'd say there is a lot of BS there, too.

Here's a hint for you next time John: Puppies tend to scuffle, it's how they sort out dominance among one another. APBTs do it, Labradoodles do it, every breed does it, and they do it because their ancestors the wolves did it

It isn't Goodwin entierly....However I think he is a leach.

It boils down to the laws. If you helped support these AR anti cruelty laws then you are just as guilty in Goodwins quest.
