Would you feed your dogs horse meat?

  1. Yes

  2. No

  1. Yes i would when i lived in Philly i feed it to my dogs for years now iam in AZ i dont no were to get it from

  2. I find it absolutely rediculous that somebody would say
"OMG, I can't belive you would eat horse meat, that's so inhumane"
    or
"how could you eat a horse, they're such beautiful animals!"

Meanwhile, they're chowin' down a hamburger or tearin' up a bucket of fried chicken!

So what, only UGLY animals get the green light to be a food source???

Just because somebody gives a horse a name doesn't exclude it from the livestock catagory.

I know a farmer who gives everylast one of his cows a name...but guess what...they are still livestock, and still get slaughtered - Their sole purpose of ever being born on his farm.

I personally have consumed Raw Horse Meat in Japan and didn't like it too much. It's served like strips of bacon, and it just didn't agree with my tastebuds.

But, if I had somebody locally who had a horse pass, I would definitely take that meat off their hands. Why not? Think about it this way...if you use the meat from that horse, you're allowing some other animal to live in its stead...possibly to go on and feed somebody else who needs it more than your dog.

Only the ugly ones are edible  puhlease.

And you know me how well? Better think a few minutes before judging someone off of a post. ;) I am totally against PETA, HSUS, heard some bad things about the ASPCA. I was pretty surprised to find out a while back that the HSUS was a completely different organization from my own city's humane society. As well as the SPCA.

Peta members are totally crazy... as saying "if they could find a cure for aids via a test rat than they still wouldn't support it!" Thats freakin crazy. PETA and HSUS would find it perfectly ok if there were no pit bulls left in this world. Thats why HSUS is on a witch hunt of dog men and killing off the game lines. Just because I'm an animal lover... does not mean that I agree or support any of those radical animal people. As others have said on this thread "some people don't see horse meat as for consumption because people just plain out like them" Thats pretty much it for me. Humans are omnivours we live off of meat and plants. Dogs are carnivours, they live off meat. Which is why I feed a grain free dog food. It's human grade quality meat in the food.

I am for animal welfare, not animal rights. When my dog starts speaking to me in english and asks if she can vote for president... well than I might consider she deserves some rights...

And until pigs start flying.. "other than at a floyd concert" I will continue treating my dog like what she is... property, dog, companion. I provide her with the care she needs and do not abuse her like a lot of sick people do to their animals.

And the idea that a guy I knew very well.. seeing as my sister was with him for years... shot a guy twice.. didn't kill him but they got him with intent. He served a year and a half in the pen... While people caught dog fighting have spent years more than that... and people caught with a little pot serve longer sentences. Believe you me.. something is definietly backwards in this country. When you can shoot at a person and get that much of a deferred sentence... and spend a year and a half. He's back in for violation of parole. They gave him 20 years probation.. he's back in the pen and only serving 6... guess he really likes it in there.

I hope that you may see me in a different light in explaining my situation. I'm an oklahoma girl... I agree with hunting, fishing, meat eating, plain ol small town girl, who now lives in the city. Actually we had a small buisness butcher out in the country my parents would buy meat bundles and such from. I saw the inside and out of that slaughter house as a kid. It didn't bother me because the animals they slaughtered were in my eyes acceptable for meat.

The killing of an animal for sport bothers me... killing an animal to dwindle down overpopulation and than using that animal for food.. doesn't bother me. If you guys want to do the horse meat thing... hey do what you do.. just don't ask me if I want a serving. ;)

I find cows cute... doesn't mean I'm not going to eat one. Hell I raised an altered male lamb "Webster" for Ag class. He lived at the school barn. I went twice a day to feed him and work him, showed him a couple times. We had our fun. When it came time to sell him I was happy for the money I got out of him and bought my first saddle. I wasn't upset over the loss, it was something I understood was going to happen before my dad bought me the lamb!

And my best friends mom used to live out in the country and had a bunch of chickens, they pecked around did their chicken thing... My friend's dalmation killed one, "mom" cleaned it and cooked it up for dinner, and we all ate it. Just because I didn't want to see my beloved pet "or livestock" horse be slaughtered and chose the humane "go to sleep" shot is none of your business, nor is it the business of anyone else.

What do you think that happens to all those thousands of race horses that don't make the grade or those that have finished their racing careers and weren't good enough for stud, they end up in dog food. The horses don't just fissle into thin air when they've finnished with them you know. Dog food manufacturers have been putting horse meat in dog food for decades, they just haven't been telling the public about it, besides, in France horse meat is a delicacy. Horse meat in dog food is actually a major ingredient.

The professional fighter Allistair Overeem swears by horse meat for his own diet. Seems to work ok for him.... Although he may be using some "BullyMax", too....lol

Depends on what your feeding for. If it is just a low cost form of meat then why not? If it is for performance food then i would want to know something about the qualities of the meat before using it. As has been stated earlier in the thread the properties of Horse are high protein but low digestibility of protein and high oily fat content. Doesn't sound promising but that is just a tiny piece of info.

Someone will know more about the properties of Horse. I know kangaroo meat has very high protein and very low fat but is used often as an additive to dog foods rather than a primary source here. Reason being it is very rich and keeps the dogs lean but without great energy as a primary source and is also rich and perhaps can be upsetting to the dogs stomach.

Lean ness is overrated in dog food imho as the first thing a wild dog eats from a kill is the stomach filled with blood grains grasses and fat then they eat the organs the liver, kidneys etc full of blood, protein and fats. The very last thing they eat is the lean meat. I am sure nature knows a thing or two about what is good for them.

they eat horse meat everyday in france and other countries . they cook it rare so you can digest better and it cost more than beef . if you need to performance feed then you just add beef fat .
