    This statement is untrue.

They are not just solely for guarding. They were a multi-purpose farm dog in South Africa. Yes, used mostly for guarding and protecting livestock and family, but also used for minor herding, draft work, and hunting.

And actually, it can take quite some time for them to mature enough to come into their protective side.

I've heard of BBs turning on with protective abilities as young as 6 months, but it usually takes at least a year. Even longer for some. They can stay goofy puppies for a good while. Just depends on the stock they come from.

Well I did say "supposed" as that is what I read. I researched them for a long time and in the late 90`s when I lived in England I was in contact with SA officials about taking the first registered BB`s into the UK. Now I do not own one and if you have knowledge on the breed and are someone who maybe owns has owned or imported any or been to SA to visit kennels then obviously you would know the breed quite well.

Ah, that's very interesting! What got you interested in the breed? That's neat that you were trying to get them in the UK from SA. There are quite a few established breeders in the UK now. The breed is beginning to make quite the impression there. And yes I do have more knowledge on the breed than I care to almost, lol. I haven't visited any kennels in SA (however I would LOVE to), but I do have two imports (one lives with my mother) and my other family has US-bred BBs.

Just liked the idea of such an impressive dog that for his size is quite athletic and also has a reputation for being a very good guardian. Also always like to have something that other people don`t...LOL

doode, i have pitdogs, hunting dogs, terriers, and shepherds, obiously the shepherds are much more better guards than the others, i have a border collie, a dutch shepherd and a australian cattle dog and a border collie i have had mallinois and germans also, from my point of veiw as trainer i would discard the akita cause is a nordic breed, good guardian, but hard to train and manage not obedient at all, from shepherds i would say the dutch is the best one for protection work but it depend in every dog, but the think is sometimes people who normally has gamedogs doesen't like the typical shepherd temperament so i wo0uld recomend to you the australian cattle dog, they are extr5emely active hardworking extraordinarily loyal to their master, intelligent brave, and their temperamenbt is dinamic is more or less like a pitbull but with protection and herding instincts, they bite hard not so big but can handle many situations, they fuckin see EVERYTHING they protectyou without trainging and with treaining their awesome also you can transfer them so they would protect you as well as your property liike a lion. http://my.imageshack.us/v_images.php this link are pics of some of my dogs, if you want to see more ask

if you just want a decent set of teeth, then most working breeds will do the job. However
If your looking for a kick ass son of a bitch, you won't go wrong with a BELGIAN MALANOIS.
They are the extremely athletic equivalent of the german shepard, but a lot more
prey drive, HELL of a lot more. Endurance, courage and tenacity it has bags off, and
Believe me, it knows how to deliver it.

    That's my personal choice.

  9. Presa canario... Tough, very strong bite and in my opinion less likely to back down then other breeds in a fight plus they have a very intimidating look.
Possiblity of DA if not raised or trained properly though, that's the only downside.
Rottweiler would be my second choice, again stronger bite and heavier build then shepherd dogs and has that image and look, everyone knows a rottie when they see one even if their not dog educated and straight away associate it with a guard dog.

Maybe I'm bias but I own both breeds and I have never had problems on my property or outside when their with me.

Fila Brasilerio, tried and true by dogman that need protection for their yard. They are not Dog agressive, bond instantly to all animals, wont kill your stock but will def hold their own if one was to get dog agressive with it...till you came and seperate ofcourse. i know of several "alternative" bulldog breeders that use Filas to guard their yard, very effective.

At are club we very kind of guard breed.I personally would not have a dobie, the reason they are not very big in protection qanymore is because they come off the bite for some reason they say it's genetic.ive seen. About 20 different dobies do bite work and all but 4 or 5 had this problem.there are to many health problems with the German Shepard now a days.if you really want an all out guard dog and nothing else.get your self a Dutch Shepard.they are very similiar to a mal but are a little more on the crazy side...

  16. The top two dogs are what the pic says Donavon pinschers not dobes there made up of various breeds Dutch shepards pitbulls various mollosers ect. so theres alot of variants something similar to the canis panther. I dont think any one breed is the ultimate gaurd dog ive had a few good ones over the years and even with good breeding theres alot to be said for the individual my ultimate was shadow my male american akita the most loyal and fearless dog ive owned he paid the ultimate price last year when he stopped two attempted break ins at my house and was poisoned two weeks later very sad i lost a true friend , i have his daughter but as much as i love her she`s not up to scratch as a manstopper hes produced some super males who are more than capable of holding there own thou, i also have male presa canario who is just under a year old and already hes excellent and shows no sign of backing down with a couple of test break ins .
a good dogs a good dog whatever the breed. I came across a breed of dog a few years back called cao de fila sao miguel(azores cattle dog) a fierce protector an all round great dog hope to import one some day

    brother wolf,
I like the FSM, we call it the "other Fila". When Fila Brasileiro breeders/owners retire or get too old they usually get involved with the FSM because they are smaller and easier to handle...Great dogs though and very capable.

try to steal a bulldog with this thing around. This is my bitch 2010 USA CAFIB Champion w/ best temperament. Completely untrained, right out of the box protective...cant get better than this. BTW, yea, that is a military issued pistol belt around her neck, I do silly things when I'm bored.

lol, thanks. Woke up one day and had it on my mind, made my way to the military clothing and sales, picked up a pistol belt and a few hours of machining and welding later I got myself a collar...super strong, cant break but I like reg flat leather collars. FSM is no joke it is like the Fila Brasileiro but smaller and with alot more prey drive (fila Brasileiro has very little). The thing I really like about the FB breed is that it needs no training it is their job and they know it as soon as they bond..amazing animal.
