Is it better to get a harness from someone who wants measurements of your dog, or are the ones sized by weight "good enough"?

    Thanks,

    Genevieve

Are you talking about a walking harness or a weight pull harness? If the latter, I get them custom made. I figure if I'm going to ask my dog to move a few thousand pounds, they should have the best harness I can buy. If you're talking about a walking harness, I don't see why one sized by weight wouldn't be sufficient.

Weight pull harness, sorry, should have clarified that.

    Thanks,

I agree with Baha. With a weightpull harness, I find it is best to get measurements and weight. Nothing like spending $75 to get it and it doesn't fit.

Yep, they should be measured out.

www.cdpits.com has the best harness I have seen.

She is ALWAYS REALLY busy and may take 4-8 weeks.

Shane, @ stillwater has some for dirt cheap and they're ready to go. I bought one from him and we practiced with it, until cdpits got my 'competition' one done.

Thanks for clearing things up. I was confused cause people kept recommending Stillwater in other threads, but there was nothing on his site about measuring dogs.

    Thanks!

Stillwater does have awesome products but I don't believe he has pulling harnesses. Here is where I got mine from. She did an awesome job and if it doesn't fit she will remake it for you. www.mightyharness.com

yep, he's got pulling harnesses. Well, he did as of 8 months ago or so. They are based on weight and not based on a dog's 'measurements'.

Iam not sure about mightyharness, but I know CDPITS has great stuff.

    good luck!

I get my harnesses from CDPits. I think hers are the best quality for the money.

  11. the ones that go by weight have no way of getting the neck size right, they are usuly a little to long. It is easy to measure for one, CDpits has a diagram on there websites. I get my harnesses from Darren Sipe at www.southerndixiepitskennels.com just call him up and he will walk you through measuring your dog.

i have'nt ever used a harness. mayfield once said, "the only thing besides weight pull a harness is good for is taking pictures". everyone has differing opinions tough.

i prefer a harness when walking dogs, espeically if your dogs like to pull. Less stress on the neck.

I can do custom harnesses, on each dogs measurements. The reason I do the harness that fits 10lb range of dogs, is because I like to use same harness on several dogs, that don't vary that much in size and wt.

All the other suppliers make good stuff, but I would say CDPits is my favorite.

Turn around on custom made wt pull harness, is about 1-2 weeks, others are ready to ship.
