question regarding bully breeds.....i know some of the cons of this so called pit bull (huge hybrids) such as health issues and not ment for game but just looks.....considering it is mixed in with other breeds (mastiffs, oeb etc..)wouldnt it have less tendancy to be less dog aggressive???

MY DOG CAM, IS BORDER COLLIE PIT MIX AND HE'S AGGRESSIVE TO CERTAIN DOGS ONLY FOR SOME REASON. WHAT I HAVE LEARNED* ON THIS SITE THAT U NEVER TRUST A PIT BULL NOT TO FIGHT. SOME TIMES HE'S AGGRESSIVE TOWARDS BIGGER DOGS OR EVEN LITTLE DOGS. HE WEIRD LIKE THAT; HE ONLY PLAYS WITH MY FRIENDS BEAGAL AND HIS STAFFIE ONLY. HE WONT PLAY WITH ANY OTHER DOGS

Well. Maybe. However with a mix breed you never know what trait will show out. It may still be dog aggressive. You have not any garantee on the temperment and nature of the dog till a standard is reached. And even then there will be variances. A gamble in other terms.

The american bully is well known as being non dog aggressive, if u do a search for some videos on youtube u will see how those supporters of that breed of dog have huge get-togethers and the dogs are right next to eachother with no problems at all. Now there might be a few out there that are DA but for the most part those dogs get along with other animals with no problems. If u get a chance go to an ADBA or AADR dog show and u will see true apbt's and u might even see a few of those dogs and then u can compare and contrast

IMO the molosser x pit bull combo just isn't a good mix for a pet home as they usually do retain the pit bull's desire to fight. Add to that fight drive the size & human aggression of a molosser? Not a good combo for a pet.

You have to remember, the breeds they are using for their mixes are usually French Mastiffs, Neapolitan Mastiffs & Presa Canarios & none are known for friendliness to dogs or humans.

Some lines, such as the Gotti line are said to be mixed w/ Eng. Bulldog, but even those dogs can still be dog aggressive. Heck, a few years ago a fellow here had 2 of his EBs tie up & they ended up fighting to the death.

As for AmBulls I myself had to get rid of am AmBull b/c she kept fighting w/ my pitties. But she was a Scott, Hines & Johnson cross. The heavier Johnson bred ones might be more mild natured.

I figure it like this: A bulldog is a bulldog is a bulldog, I don't care if it's a pit bull, am bull, english bull - whatever, they all come from fighting roots. Some strains may be more easy going & tolorant of dogs than others, but you can NEVER expect a bulldog not to fight.

I agree with what everyone has said already. I think that if you plan on getting one of these big mutts, you don't really know what you are getting. I would much rather buy an APBT from a good breeder, at least you have a better idea of what you are getting and what you'll end up with.

It is a great idea bringing someone knowledgeable with you, but that being said many dogs do not show dog aggression until they hit maturity. Another thing to think about is just because the parents may not appear to be dog agressive it doen't mean the pups won't be. This honestly goes for any breed of dog.

If you control your dog, DA is not usually a problem. Simply keep your dog securely confined and out of situations where it can get into fights.

Your bulldog does not need cute little doggie friends. Your bulldog needs you.

Each dog should be judged on an induvidual basis- But that "golden rule" (Never trust your pit bull not to fight) should apply regardless... I have a dog who could have easily been bred as one of those "hippo dogs", I'm not sure as he is a rescue. However, he is quite dog aggressive and has proven himself to be a handful on more than one ocassion.

My advice to you is if you really wish to own one of those mutts, consider adopting a sound adult from a reputable rescue (They are READILY available). Puppies are unpredictable. With an adult dog, you have a better idea of what you are getting yourself into (Remember that DA can develop at any time though).

Good post GSD. It can vary dog to dog. I myself have had gamebred dogs who were kittens as well as big ole "bluffs" who were downright fight crazy.

You have to remember all dogs fight. I don't care if it's a dachund, poodle or pit bull. But most bull breeds have an affinity for it. For example, your dogs might be fine in day-to-day life. Heck, they may get along like peaches & cream for days, months or even years.

But your wife's basset & your dog will very likely get into it one day. It's the nature of the beast. The fight may be over a toy, treat or a particular person's attention. And when that happens, it's not likely to be a fight that is all threatening snarls & flashing teeth. It will probably be one where the bull breed does it's best to kill the basset.

And some bull breeds, esp. the types deemed "pit bulls" will not forget the fight & may be forever more dog aggressive to that dog or to dogs in general.

Of course, as has been pointed out before, an adult from a rescue who has been temperment tested is a much safer choice for a multi-dog household.

    Good luck.

All dogs fight but this breed enjoys it. they live for it, it makes them happy. once they start its a pretty sure bet that they will take every opportunity to do it again, and again. Your best bet is to never let the first one happen, do extensive OB training and teach your dog to give you its full attention.

Diesel is bred like that (a "hippo") and the most aggressive dog I have ever owned. we have done a lot of work with him and got it toned down to the point where he can be controlled but the want to fight is right there. you can see it in his eyes. Its part of the breed. anyone that isnt prepared (fully) to deal with DA should noot get a pitbull of any type. game, non-game, show, bully, all of it stems from the same pool and that pool has a standard that says dog aggression is an expected and accepted trait.

mixing breeds into the APBT is a HORRIBLE idea. you never know what traits are going to come over and which will stay. The most probable result though is a high energy, extremely powerful and determined dog that will still be DA but it will NOT have the bite inhibition of the APBT. which is a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Yes, that is the most probable result. Heck, fanciers of the American Bandogge Mastiff (pit bull x Neo) tout it as the "premiere" personal protection dog.

  15. i know what you mean diesel, when you said, "can see it in his eyes" once i see that....in my mind, im sayin...oh crap!

The sky is the limit if you start w/a pup..... Bring an adult dog home and it's a total crap shoot no matter how it was bred.
