RIP Brian Bailey

The bottom half of that pedigree is full of game dogs that could bite, especially the shot of Outlaw on the bottom with that Brandy Girl stuff.

The Robinson dogs were not bred an awful lot in comparison to the other strains of Red Boy dogs. Some really nice dogs came down when they brought the Jocko family in thru Chavis Ho. Seen a few good ones from that strain.

I don't have a lot of experience with the Triple Ott dogs down directly out of him. He had a littermate brother that was one of the more game game dogs ever. Again, the first litters off Triple Ott Red did not find themselves being peddled. Back then the Red Boy dogs were still competing dogs and not just looked at as the missing link to a breeding program/peddled.

His brother JR went upstairs one night to the top of the barn. He got demolished. When he came down the steps (we were kids and had to sneak a peek when we could) I thought he was dead. He was being held and as limp as a wet dishrag. It was a competitive group and somewhat hostile and they were yelling all kinds of crap down the steps. He yelled back up and said he would cover any and all bets that if the dog stood up he would make a scratch. The dog was as limp going up the steps as he was being carried down the steps. I wish I could have seen it as I was hooked on this shit as a 10 year old. The amounts of money were crazy for the times. JR was stood up, he opened his eyes, first step he fell to the right and it was said he bounced like a basketball all the way across and took hold. He got his ass handed to him one more time before the break and he never took his eyes off the other until he was brought back down the steps. He could not bust an egg himself but when bred to some of the old Carver/Triplett/Stephenson bred dogs he threw some really nice dogs. "H" called up the steps and told them to "pay the toll because this is the motherf((&^*&% Red Boy train". From then on when he was working dogs he would ask do you hear that horn way off in the distance? We were required to say (10-11-12) "That is the blankey blank Red Boy train coming". I was brain washed as a child.

Triple Ott stuff and the JR stuff was not spread out an awful lot and maybe becuase when their other brother Yellow John was bred ot the Jocko bitch Yellow John became the 'go to' Red Boy dog of the times.....sort of where the popularity started and in time became a part of the demise.

Another indication of the change was back then they were called 'ol Jocko-Red Boy dogs. Red Boy then pulled up and passed Jocko to be the most popularly bred and sold dog ever.

I can't speak for all of them but I can name maybe ten or twelve that back then they were hard to handle.

I can't look back all nostalgic with rose colored glasses but back then the percentages of people looking for a W was much higher than today. So many dogmen back then had good dogs but didn't sell a lot of puppies. People remember the puppy sellers or the producers so much more than they do the winners.

Mr. Teal won some matches with Red Boy but no one ever mentions Red Boy as a performer because they are looking to own the next Red Bor breeding/selling purposes.

The guy that turned me onto the dogs as kid was friends and cohorts with so many of those men back then. They had places where people showed up, cooked a huge Sunday morning breakfast, ate and then rolled dogs just about all day. He won a number of matches. He pretty much introduced the Red Boy dogs to our part of the state. He kept ten to 12 dogs that were open to the world all the time. That has always been impressive to me.

Mr. Burleson was the same. Very few will ever hear or know his name because he didn't sell a lot of puppies.

Holmes, Creel, Williams, Cable, Stidham, Howell, Young, Middleton, Chavis, Robinson, Whitley, etc. etc. will never be household names like Patrick, Beaudreaux, Bass, Garner or other commercial breeders.

I'm not knocking it because it is the largest spoke that keeps the wheel turning round and round.
