Joe Mallen seemed to think so. Also they used to test dogs on badgers during the 70's badger trials in Ireland. Maybe with an APBT things would be different.

    Interview will Bill Boylan

"Miss Jane kept her Staffords at work during the war years. Her two females killed 111 rats in 15 minutes at a bait, and one of the females took 27 fox cubs and one adult Das from the ground, and all in four months time. All this was appreciated by local farmers who were harvesting grain and other food. There was a Badger from the North brought the war to two dogs at Cradley Heath test, both good dogs. I heard that both dogs Das killed in rapid succession. The police were very Allert Cradley around this time to something or other, so everything was put on the back burner. So it went in those days around the Old Cross Guns, there was always something going on.

    History

Badger baiting and Teastas Mor badger trials of Ireland

The badger is a usually quiet and docile creature in its own domain; however, when cornered or when a threat is perceived it can possess impressive courage. Weighing up to thirty-five pounds when fully grown, the badger has an extraordinarily dangerous bite, which it is willing to use recklessly when threatened. In addition, badgers have extremely powerful claws, used for digging in hard earth, which are more than capable of injuring the dog. A formidable adversary for any dog, the badger was a sought-after participant for the fighting pit.

In order to use the badger's ability to defend itself to test the dog, artificial badger dens were built, captured badgers were put in them and then the dog was set on the badger. The badger would be placed in a box, which was furnished in imitation of its den and from there a tunnel led upward. The owner of the badger puts his animal in the box. The timekeeper is equipped with a watch and the badger's owner releases the dog for the fight. Whoever wants to pit his dog against the badger lets it slide into the tunnel. Usually the dog is seized immediately by the badger and the dog in turn grips the badger. Each bites, tears and pulls the other with all their might. The owner quickly pulls out the dog whose jaws are clamped obstinately onto the badger by its tail. The two are separated and the badger is returned to its den. Then the dog is sent back in to seize the badger and it again is drawn out with the badger. This scene is repeated over and over again. The more often a dog is able to seize the badger within a minute, so that both can be pulled out together, the more it is up to the task and is considered game.

Drawing the badger soon became a very popular sideshow in the pit. It provided a new opportunity to win or lose money by betting. Drawing the badger thus became a permanent part of the fight in the pit. Baits were staged outside the pit in cellars or taverns, as an interesting attraction for the guests.

Towards the middle 1800s Badger-baiting declined in popularity to be replaced by dog fighting.

    Badger dogs

Some dog breeds were specifically developed for badger-baiting whilst several other breeds were used in this task in addition to more general vermin control. In the United kingdom and Ireland terrier breeds such as the Wheaton terrier Airedale terrier, Bedlington terrier, Blue Paul terrier, Fox terrier, Glen of Imaal terrier, Sealyham terrier, English Bull Terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, Welsh terrier, Wheaten terrier and Kerry blue terrier were most often used.

    Teastas Mor

Strict Irish Kennel Club rules governed the Teastas Mor (certificate of gameness). It was considered that the discipline ensured contests between dog and badger were fair. In the past, to become an Irish Kennel Club terrier champion, it was necessary for a terrier to be in possession of a Teastas Mor. These continued until the kennel ceased to license trials in 1968.

In addition, there were many other badger clubs; each had their own rules, which varied considerably. Frequently, the badger was afforded little protection.

(rare picture of a game to the badger white & brindle English bull terrier)

One of the greatest gamest and most famous badger dogs (deceased). "The Red Hand of Ulster" (English bull terrier). Note that this dog doesn't look anything like the original all white Hink's bull terrier, but more like the present day English show line bull terrier. The Hinks bull terrier was bred back into pit bull lines by Glyn Jones many years after Hink's created his all white dog. Making the American pit bull terrier and the English bull terrier genetically very similar.

    Law

The Cruelty to Animals Act 1835 made badger-baiting illegal in the United Kingdom; however, it continued in London long after and continues to occur in rural areas of the United Kingdom

To a hungry hyena any dog is a meal and a wolverine would be a match for any single dog.

first off, dogs have killed much more impressive animals(wolves, leopard, etc.) . wolverines are highly overrated, but rely only on not backing off. wolves eat them rather easily as well. because of their reputation wolverines are assumed to be all powerful. they aren't. no more than a bulldog.

I've never seen wolves singlehandedly attack a wolverine. I do remember seeing footage when I was younger of a wolf pack attacking one. One of the wolves tangled with it and got his paw injured. After that the wolves left the wolverine alone

yeah. that was fake. records have shown that wolverines actually get the hell out of there when confronted with a wolf pack. like any other animal with self preservation lol

I know this is old but I sure would like to know what was fake. How would you know if for 1 you have know idea what video I was talking about and 2 you weren't there for the filming of said video.
Maybe I shouldn't debate with a blue dog lover though.

  16. Great video Mr Revolution.it could be fake?.......though it certainly looked real....it was a great fight.and that wolverine looked huge, especially for a wisel type creature.they look slightly bigger than a European Badger.they look well nastier too.I think a Bulldog would win.I think it would beat the wolf too.lol.just rambling here.maybe not the big North American one's?but then again,I love the story\movie White Fang.lol.while I'm just rambling here, the Honey Badger looks like another mean beast, looks like a Wolverine but smaller perhaps?.....lol. I'd love to see it,and if I had to use a dog on any of the beasts just mentioned I would definitely use a Bulldog.one on one with them big North American Wolfs?I could not say.but two of them on one would make mince meat out of it i think.as for the other wisel type beasts I reckon the Bulldog would make mince meat out of any of them.lol I love rambling stuff like this.......

  17. What dogs do you use on the coons david?....are they harder then the badgers over there?was your staffs good on the coons?.....I thought that a Buldog would kill a coon in about a minute or so?and I thought they would killl a European Badger in about three minutes or so?.but I never did none of that.lol.maybe I should?theres plenty round,(not coons lol)and I have a lamp.maybe I should.?no!.theres to much cattle in the fields lol.........

The video I posted is not the one I saw as a kid.
I'm not saying a wolverine would win just that it would be a formidable opponent for a pit

  19. Oh,I could imagine it would be war lol.total hell by the looks of things.and yes they do look formidable, the wolverines.in fact most wisel type beasts(mustilids,I may of spelt that wrong)are quite furious when enraged.awesome little beasts!........ha,ha,lol.you got me curious Mr Revolution.you got my mind wondering about dogs v beasts............to go on a hunting holiday to Africa.(you no?trophy hunting.) You need quite a lot of money.but I'm sure the honey badger is a pest!.(in some parts)they would love you to try your dog?..lol.I'm just rambling here Mr Revolution.but it would be an unusual trophy would it not?a honey badger?...so would a Wolverine.I would proud,if my dogs did it....specially if it was above the mantel place......just rambling lol.............
