You don't need to be religious to feel guilt, it's called a conscious and morals from your upbringing.

If you need to believe in God to stop you going out and doing whatever you like then you have no morals. Worked with a very religious women who didn't understand why people with no religious values didn't just go out and do what they wanted.

Never made sense, every action has a consequence good, bad or neutral. We have laws now to keep society in order to punish those whilst they are living.

I'm not religious anymore but i'm not going to go out and murder, rape or steal because I have no reason to, nothing to do with god. Not even to do with laws.

If I see someone I hate I don't want to kill them, A women I fancy I don't want to rape them, a bank I could steal from I'm not going to do it. Regardless of a god or Laws.

I tend to believe that consciousness you speak of is the link you have to a higher power. In the end we will all find out who is right and who is wrong. I'd rather believe and be wrong than not believe and be right. To each their own. Lol its your soul not mine. I have plenty of my own explaining to do if and when that time comes. The only thing I need to do to believe in a higher power than myself is simply open my eyes and look around. The funny thing about religion is no one can prove it to be right, you also can not prove it to be wrong. Only when we die will we truly know what is what.

 

People can have morals and values without being religious.

There are three things that determines ones up bringing.
1. Personal morals and values regardless of where those morals and values came from.
2. Societies rules and laws that determine for you what is deemed acceptable and unacceptable in society.
3. Each and every individuals free will to accept or not too accept those morals/values and societies laws.

The controversy stems from whos morals/values and societies laws are deemed right or wrong or deemed acceptable and not acceptable and by whom deemed them that way....for me personally I would trust a higher powers morals/values and laws before I would trust any of mans morals/values and laws.....the most EVILEST CREATURE ON EARTH IS MAN.
