Slim, if I knew you, lived close, we was friendly, and all that good shit. I would buy you lunch every Saturday to talk and pick your brain a lil. Hell, I'd even have my ol lady cook, if I had one. Naus too. Naus blunt and to the point. I respect that too. Good convo!

I feel that. I was just talkin in general. I can't say anything about the dog, but if mine down 1.5 I'm rethinkin some things. Either mine wasn't as good as I thought, or this one is better. Condition plays a part too

I couldnt agree more C note,,, Slim should write a book as he gets great points across and seems to have absorbed a lifetime of knowledge that only an efficient eye and a thorough ear can share...

Naus... has a style as you say blunt and to the point that also adds a lot to a read and you learn to trust both their opinions from their values,,, Naus also has a great understanding of a vast amount of different bloodlines...

I agree with Slims statement of "Lots of ACES out there, but only a few finish as ACES",,,
there might be two types of ACES,,, one being of the thread topic of INNATE ABILITY,,,
and the other being in our head until the ACE is retired and we look back at at their career with no holes and faced the best,,, might have traveled great distances doing so,,, might have come from behind,,, but YES they finish an,,,
    ACE...

"I would venture to say the dog carries the human more times than not " another phrase of Slims that tells the truth,,,
and Innate Ability might just be that,,, not only in the bulldogs case but in the evolution of all dogs...

    Sounds like a good time.

    I'm all about lunch. LOL

I like Naus posts as well.

Some days I'm not sure I have enough left to pick, at last my wife says so. She says I can remember the details of a dog from 20 years ago but can't remember the milk at the grocery store. LOL

I'd take you up on it, especially if it is a buffet deal. I'm not saying so, but if you think I can talk dogs, you should see me on a buffet.

I have the innate ability to go through wifes! I'm on my 4th.. now! On my third I came in from A long change offshore. She knew A group of us were headed to Dallas, then back down to Vinton for A three day weekend! Showerd got dressed asked are you ready? She actually tried to lay an ultimatum....you leave for the weekend I want be here when you get home!!!! Well that was just the wrong thing to say! I told her to make sure she packed all her shit and don't let the door hit you in the ass! I kinda had A feeling Sancho had been around while I was at work....but she did make sure my dogs were feed and watered!!! Never saw her again she passed in 1999 liver frailer. So my 4th. wife I laid it out this is who I am and this is what I do.....so far so good! Shes down for what ever!!! Any youngsters out there make sure you lay all your cards on the table...sometimes it works!!

A super intelligent, game, versatile, bulldog who could control, finish, and wrestle..yes previously showed what many who saw her as having the makings of being an ACE..in every sense of the word. We don't throw the term around lightly. Because anyone who has been around these dogs knows a true ACE is hard to come by. If this bitch would have been given a fair shake whose to say should would not have been such a rarity. The only thing we know for sure is that she couldn't overcome not being brought in in her best condition and the winner as good as she was didn't fare well afterwards.

Point is there are many dynamics in competition.

Innate ability is just one. One that should not be overlooked. But all the ability in the world might not save you if poor conditioning is stacked against you.

Somethings like innate ability are beyond our control. But other aspects rest on us.

That's about as plain as I get. Take it or leave it for what it's worth lol

Been a good thread. Appreciate the feedback from all. Anybody who's been up here long knows I do one or two threads every year or so. Just like to start a good conversation. Catch you in 2017...

Lol... Now Trotline! He seems like a good ol country boy! Not in the racist way. No offense, I was born in TN and live I AL. I go to ATL and the girls call ME "country" lol. Some of the stories he tells are very "southern," if I may. I love it!! If he's a rollin stone, I'm a rollin stoner... I'd like to sit under a tree wit Trot in the backyard and toke while he talks! I bet Trot saves the REAL GOOD STORIES for tellin in person. You too Elias. Seems like you researched almost EVERY dog and family that is or was winnin! Y'all are all the truth to me! I'm missin TDK, Gringo Pistolero, ol BB Ben Brockton, and a couple more I can't think of off top of my head. Preciate the views and incite!!

I see. No need to further explain, I read between the lines. Sounds like what happened to Homer. Replacement on short notice! I hope that gyp was put up for another time or maybe breeding! Good luck in the future bro. I like that Alligator stuff you workin wit. Dogs look good! KS

Thanks I have less Alligator stuff these days. As for the gyp we never did get anything off ours. Half cocked against average comp can get you slumped but against good comp it's right wreckless IMO.

Thank you C Note,,, I agree about how rich these individuals statements seem to resinate and miss them also,,,
but maybe if you bring the papers,,, and round up Trot and Slim,,,
Ill bring the rest,,,we could roll up,,, smoke a pig and listen to Trot and Slim for hours,,, those old stories are the last of a dying breed,,, to me the heyday of the dog game was in Maurices day and Trot was right there,,,
Something about a southern gentlemen is they are great story tellers as part of the culture,,,
or at least thats what I gather from Mayfields book american heritage and rednecks as he explains to a dutch fellow his interpretation of the game and the rednecks involved...

...good read and understanding,,, I value your opinions... GREAT THREAD!!!

This was/is a good thread. It takes all kinds to make the dog world go around.

So many things in the dogs is truly subjective but people are so passionate in their opinions/beliefs that it seems like the gospel for them.

Innate ability is one of those topics which makes it all the more interesting.

The Chloe female had all the ability in the world but without the desire to work she would eventually come up short. Her brother Cornbread had, heart, pound for pound strength and absolutely enjoyed competition topped with a boat load of mouth. At times he would trade to get where he wanted. Not a lot of future in trading. Eventually there will be one that can trade better. The Spanky dog had all the ability in the world as well, with the mouth to boot, but he checked up after 'winning'. Charlie was the most complete dog I have ever seen. And to top that off Bobby was better but he had horrible chain habits. He never got the opportunity.

Each of these dogs had a certain amount innate ability. Each had a trait or traits that hid/overcame a lesser trait. Some relied solely on their ability and some didn't, yet each were successful in one way or the other.

Maybe to sum it up on innate ability odds are a one-trick pony can't make it. At some point in a long journey there has to be a Plan B.

So, lets say I'm doing good locally and want to test my mettle in the fastlane, but back up in these hills we are all billies... Where would I find this fast lane when we all just usually go against each other the way we grew up doing?

  19. CajunBoulette

    CajunBoulette CH Dog

That's how it goes most places, I don't think their is a fastlane per se, but moreso some circles spin faster than others. Imo these days I wouldn't match into anyone that you or someone very close to you trust...

Aint no such thing as "fastlane" never was the shit is something outside the lines would say.
