Which one/ones do you hold in high regard n which do you not care for? Thought this would be interesting. .everyone talks about who the greats are nobody says which of the old big timers they don't care for.

I don't personally know any of them. So what are we going buy? Personal opinion of them personally? Their Bulldogs? What?

Can't really put words to how I feel about the loss of D. Stubbs last year, Pookie and I spent a lot of time with him the last 6 months of his life. He was probably one of the kindest people I ever knew, an ace of a dogman, and an all around ace of a man. I doubt a day goes by that he isn't in my thoughts at some point.

Then there is TDK, a long time friend and mentor of 10-12 yrs. I really don't know where to start, or what to say, I credit most of what I've learned to him, and feel like he is a very large part of any type of success I will enjoy in regards to these dogs. Him and his lovely wife have treated me like family since I first met them.

SALT, another long time friend that is probably one of the most loyal and honest friends a person could ask for, and another excellent all around individual.

I met Bennett Clayton twice, and although I didn't get a ton of time to sit and talk with him, he seemed like a very straightforward person, and gave some sound advice that panned out pretty well for me.

Lockdown Rudy is someone that I've know for a pretty good while, and remain in contact with. He's probably the best story teller I've ever known, a very skilled writer, and a man that is very passionate about the truth.

That's all I can really think of offhand, and as far as dogmen I've met that were either dishonest, or that I didn't really care for, I'd just rather keep that to myself.

I suppose I should first give homage to Ralph Greenwood. He looms very large among those who had a piece of mentoring me. He was honest, sincere with his words of schooling, a good family man, great dogger and IMO an all around fine man.

I've had more than one mentor. In fact, while thanking CW of Ch Little Boots fame, H. Gray, and those I grew up with who were also mentored by Mr. Greenwood, I would like to throw in my old friend, Danny Burton. Danny is one of those people who doesn't need to be teaching you. Just talking dogs with him led to much insight on its own. I was at many events when Bert Clouse also attended, and he treated me as a very young man as though he had known me since childhood. Always asking me to sit next to him and talk about what we were seeing. He was another one who didn't "teach". Just talking about dogs seemed to turn on the light bulb in your head and make you think and use logic and common sense. People such as he help one develop a path of realism.

People can be mentored by those not even speaking directly to THEM. This was the case with me, also, as even when an elder dogger was talking to someone else, my rabbit ears were up. Mr. Needham was a close friend to Mr. Greenwood, and he laid plenty of new wisdom upon me also, when I was a very young man. From most of the aforementioned people, I was overwhelmingly advised of the value of patience. I was both told and shown why, and I am damned thankful for it.

Early in my times, I was partners with Rushin Bill. We learned from each other, albeit both young guys, simply by our constant exchange of ideas and going over things we'd seen when together or otherwise.

Bringing it to times beyond those years of "incubation", and for many years, I have had the pleasure of associating with some very astute, clean yet hard players who have helped my dogs succeed, and have always reciprocated from everything I gave them. Real competitors, who have shown top rank professionalism in having friendship, trust and success...... RDC's Ma'at, Big C. and Mr. Nap. Of all who have had dogs from me, they have shown an incredible amount of consistency, success and reciprocation.

My nearly life long friend and the man I call my little brother, USMC Salt has been as loyal as a person can be to me. I think he may know more about me than I know about me. LOL He is the same Salt that Champ mentioned. I'm very glad Champ met and knows the likes of Salt. He is more true and reliable than maritime itself. He is family here. OOH RAH! And Semper Fi, my brother.

There are surely more, and for not having them in the forefront of my mind at the moment, I apologize to them. I will give them proper mention in a later post when they come to mind.

There are many bit players in one's life and times. But to me, no matter how brief or small their time with you was, if they dealt you kindness, then their contribution was major. I'm fortunate to have had a few of these over the years. Thanks to all I mentioned. T.

Who don't you care much for TDK? You don't have to answer that if your not comfortable with it.

I would have to take a week or so to answer this one - Basically the ones that are willing to help. Sure there will always be a clown or two among them, but in reality - many folks that do not get on here, and many that do- have helped me along the way. If you are reading this, and have helped, I thank you kindly. For those that are not on this board, they can gather my gratitide in person - the main thing is to always make an effort to let them know how grateful you are, teacher or student alike - for if nobody wishes to learn, things are lost in time.
Great thread, sorry I am not much fun in my answer, but it is my thoughts.

I am from Africa so you will not know the dogmen from here. Many people that helped me along my way, but my good friend Bouncer was most influential on me. Then there was The Southerner who taught me much about the dogs and what clicked.
There are few more but I won't mention them on here. Dogmen I don't care much for I won't mention by name but all those lying bastards that I've known from back then until now and avoid by all means. Those people who deliberately lied to m face when they had an the opportunity to tell the truth. They got sifted like wheat from chaff and discarded in the same fashion.

I should also mention my good friend David Carroll (RIP my good friend) but although I brought him into the dog game and taught him to school out his first dogs, he gave me an inbred grandson of gr ch Buster Brown for which I will be forever grateful to him. He was also one of the most honest dogmen I have known and didn't do much else but talking and doing dogs.
I salute him in his absence.

Thanks for all that TDK. Some very fine examples of dogmen, family men, honest men, hard working men.
sorry ladies - i know you all have had just as many fine examples.

I am sure some ladies could be mentioned aswell.
I know from a friend I met here, that a lady, who deserves much respect and mention in this thread, was very grateful for what she had learned from you over the years also Sir.

Can we mention them by handle here if we do not know who they are? I can do that because I do not feel like it puts anyone out there that may not want to be.

I'd say yes, McCoy. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a shout out.

I want to reiterate what Champ said about Mr. Stubbs. He was a Dogman's Dogman. He showed us and our dogs the kind of love a man only shows his own and his kin. He was a true ace and is missed daily. We wouldn't be were we are I don't think had it not been for that man and I will forever be grateful for all he did for us. I practiced what TDK alluded to many times with him and the fine Dogmen that frequented his home and listened as best I could to everything they said. Even if they didn't know it I was always learning something.

TDK of course has been a constant source of good conversation and learning the short while I have known him personally but I know I have learned a lot from him he probably doesn't know I listened to and took note of in our chats online lol. As Champ told me not very long ago, even if you think you know the answer to what he is saying, ask a question anyway because he might throw you a curve ball that you never even thought about! And that has proven to be to be very true man a time!

I am going to have to let it be known I have learned a lot thanks to Champ as well. We sit a lot and just talk and discuss these dogs and experiences we have had so that we can improve constantly in what we are doing. He knows things I don't know and passes on knowledge he has learned from his years listening to some great men that I don't have the experience to know yet.

I have taken a lot from the few legitimate Dogwomen I know from off the internet as well. You don't often hear about them in discussion but the Dogmen I look up to hold them in as high esteem as any man out there. They sure do give a girl like me someone to look up to and strive to be like in this world of men! Lol they know who they are but I will not mention them by name on here.
I also learn a lot from the younger Dogwomen like me and am looking forward to meeting them now that we are closer :)

I learned how to conduct myself from men like Hunterman, Keystone Kid, Salt, TDK and others online, and in person. They show a high level of understand and care in how they type and word things that make humility and respect the forefront no matter how others may come at them and we can all learn something from that! A few of them I have met already in person and a few I will be meeting now that we aren't in the desert! :)

I feel very fortunate in who I have met and who I will meet and will continue to learn something from them all whether they know it or not.

As for the people in this world that I do not care for, I won't list them. They don't deserve the time of day. They do teach you though, even if its not how to do things!

I am sure I could type on this all day but I can't lol so I'll just leave it at that. I am sure I have forgot some but if I have talked with them for any length of time I have taken something from them and am thankful for the time...

Well, G4, it isn't much a matter of who I don't care for. We've all met some unsavory characters in the dogs. You have to realize that a number of bad traits in people tend to come to the forefront in certain folks when they have the dogs. Greed, jealousy, self absorption, connivance, egotism, disrespect of one another and the dogs alike, lack of appreciation, downright cruelties and neglect, blatant disregard for anyone else or anything else, poor sports, lying, cheating, and the list could go on. So while we have all had unsavory people present themselves in our lives, I find them more worthy of shunning than I do naming. It's those acts and ways of conduct I don't favor as opposed to any certain individuals. But you know what they say about those folks where I come from..................

    "FUCKUM!" LOL

Thanks for the spot on your list McCoy. I'll assume I'm on the friend list instead of the Dogmen list. I'm more of a "Shit Picker Upper" that would rather be around animals more than most people. I do have about 50 years experience of taking care of critters although it doesnt mean anything.
