What're some of the biggest mistakes you've made with these dogs?

Getting a dog when i was still a teenager. I really wasnt mature enough, didn't fight the dog or anything just let girls get in the way. To add to that I really didnt have the money for vet visits and such.

 

For me it was taking on to much, to fast. Not everyone has a spread the size of Tom Garner's but when I first got into the bulldogs I didn't let that stop me and I soon found I had more hounds then I could manage properly. In those days like so many young men I was very eager and had little patience, if you did it in 20 years, I could do it better in 10.

Thankfully age and experience knocked me down a peg or two and humbled me as life often does. Now days I keep 9 hounds, 3 male and 6 female. Each receive up to date veterinarian care, a high quality food, plenty of attention, clean and large pens. Have never had a kennel ''accident'', have never had one lose their ''hardware'', know each one and each of their individual needs when preparing for a show (conformation), each also has their time inside the house as well every week. This was all achieved through time and more then making my share of mistakes. Just as in becoming a man, in becoming a dogman I had to step back and say ''ok, I don't know shit''. Thankfully their was one or two good people ready to help me learn and I was man enough to shut up and just listen, the rest as they say is history. All these years later and I still am learning, am still eager, am still in love with this breed and yes from time to time I still fuck up and learn from it but tha'ts how you grow as a dogman.

 

so far, following the crowd. When i was real you i would pet any dog that walked past me, just my nature. but my mother and father always said, "no not that one. it looks like a pit bull". at first i didn't care much. but then sooner or later i started to fear "pit bulls" a bit. My family had always had sleek, plain, (cannibalistic) hounds. so seeing something with a head that big kind of freaked me out. then something happened. we took our mutt to the dog park like the undedicated idiots we were. someone there had an amstaff x ambull that was causing trouble. it wasn't a bad dog BTW, nice pied liver. so this dog, name was karma, went around growling at other dogs, jumping on people, and looking hungry as hell. i was dead scared of this mutt. my dog is ball-crazed, so she was doing her thing when she bumped into this dog. these two started duking it out and i was scared for my pet's life! but then, she kicked the SHIT out of this dog! i sat there going, "so. are pit bulls overrated? must be." little did i know what an APBT was at the time, as i was more of a husky kid(cant stand their howling now). I was on a forum where i commonly went under assumption that unless a pit bull was huge, it was just a pug with a long muzzle. clashed a WHOLE bunch of times with EBT guys. then a member with a GREAT looking ambull showed up (very well conditioned, catch dog) and quickly told me off about pit bulls (despite her not having one, though she had no problem calling her blue cur bred dog an APBT.). the turning point for me was a picture of chinaman someone posted, and then them saying they knew more about bully breeds than me and always would. as a person who doesn't take challenges lightly, i set out to learn. spent hours researching match dogs, breed history, good breeders, the breed, etc. due to my skills at learning things rather quickly, my knowledge on the breed has grown enormously. however, i never stop learning. which is what i love about these dogs. you learn something new every day.


that is my biggest mistake so far, and i'm sure i'll make more.

 

Look ....believe me or not ,,,,, growing up in these Southern United States we apreciate a Bulldog ! And we mind our own damn BUISNESS!

 

The biggest mistake I made is trying to fix a man biter. Long story short after a lot of work, time and money on trainers/behaviourists with a dog that I still thought a lot of I ended up in hospital with 26 stitches to my face and neck when he went for my throat and 8 stitches on my hand from trying to fight him off. A bulldog is a hell of a thing to get off you when you get blindsided. Now my policy is shoot first, ain't worth the risk

 

My biggest mistake was expecting too much out of a dog at a young age..I ruined 2 good dogs due to lack of knowledge on handling these dogs and not being patient.one of them I think about everyday bc I feel she had something to offer to the game but didn't have a fair chance due to my lack of understanding

 

Helping A newbie out, the dog I LOANED him showed good! The PUNK then changed his name and sold him for $$$$$, told me he was stolen! I made where he couldn't show up anywhere at least in the south!!!

Not breeding my main stud enough....I was always told breed the good ones that deserved too, but at the same time I just couldn't keep every dog off him.. I was to stubborn or to nervous to let anyone have any of the"sacred blood". Now even though I have dogs now he will always be my favorite all times......Now when I look outback, I don't have anything with his blood in them.....kills me gd community. He truly did everything I asked in a bulldawg....well he may not be around but he holds the standard for me....what makes it worst, the times I bred him he produced.....just dumb.........

 

He'll na I love pussy just had too much of it in my younger years if I didn't get distracted I may be where I want with the dogs but maybe not oh well the pussy was fun just set me back a few years

 

Towing!!! Man I'm looking for A late 50's to late 60's Chevy., or A ford would work something with A straight frame and cancer free! If you run across something like that PM me please!!! I have several V8's on the property, A 302, 327, and A 350!!! All need at least rings and inserts, plus valve job but really not in that bad of shape!

Let me clarify no. 2. Billy is now 7 months old, and I assumed jumping would not be an issue at this age. I was wrong. Luckily I caught him hanging at the top of the wall, and pulled him down. A few days later, and now that wall is almost 8ft. We're moving in 4 months, and proper fencing will be at the top of my priority list.
