Kennel and Dog House set up

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by BoogiemanBlood, Dec 26, 2010.

1. I'm wanting to lay some fencing on the ground around the edge of my kennel to create a dig proof barrier, what kind of fencing would you guys recommend that would lay out flat on the ground good? I'm planning on nailing it down with some landscape anchoring staples.

2. Thanks for sharing!

Looks very nice and comfortable for our canine friends.

Nice set up.

I'm not sure if this video was posted or not yet on this forum - I'm new. However, I found this to be one of the best videos on building kennels (By Tom Garner)

Tg designs are nice and efficient for older and calmer dogs that dont chew, dig or climb...
I would use the horse panels on top and bottem to assure/ insure the climbers and diggers dont get out...
Tg should have stained the wood first before constructing, but wood is somewhat a chew toy for alot of kenneled animals and who knows how the chemicals in the stain could be harmful...
I would find some old gas pipe or ridgid electric pipe and weld them together for frames, using horse panels on all sides including tops and bottems...
Alot of times you can find the pipe for free from demo areas if you haul it away, alot of mexicans make some pretty extravegant fences around thier property with reused material and grit...
I found slightly buried hog/cattle/horse panels tied to the bootem of the kennel is the best way to keep the dogs in thier kennel and still offer proper drainage...

Nice kennel but not sure if I would trust it as much as a chain link one. More for young pups
and b*tch rearing pups.

I got a bitch that i just know Will give me trouble. She don't dig but she is a jumper. At 6 months she could reach the top of Her 6 ft kennel. Probably gonna have to get a panel covering the entire kennel. As for diggers i will just concrete as a frame around the kennel panels, on the inside

Those panels are individually welded at the cross members as opposed to chain link being wooven...
I agree a heavy gauge chain link strtched tight with all the right hardware is effeciant but I prefer the livestock pannels...
A lesser gauge welded panel strength has to be stronger than a heavier one thats weaved, plus there are good enough for horses...

With the extreme heat of this summer in the south I'm looking into concrete housing for tethered applications. If you have any photos of similar setups or pros or cons please share. This is what I have come across as for construction http://www.wildlifesafari.us/concrete_dog_houses.htm biggest issue I'm thinking is moving of house if not put in the best location at first as they weigh up to 1000lbs

Unless you have a front loader on the Jube like ol boy does, screw that. I move my houses too much to do concrete.

Good share, though.

Man that's a hard one..1000lbs....if your that serious, make up your mind and place them in that spot and have at it...mines do fine with the insulated dog houses...they lay on top or in the first compartment when its hot....hard rain or cold air they move to the second compartment....there in alot of shade though....it gets hot around here as well...I try not to over feed or fatten them in the summer....you learn something new everyday.

thats really nice boogie..only thing i can add about kennels is when you tie a tarp to the top ,make sure your kennel is tied to the ground..wind during a good thunderstorm will sail them like a kite.had it happen to me.
