Walking on a leash with a crazy dog

I have a dog that's 10 months old. HE IS CRAZY! He fights the leash, fights the kennel, He will fight anything that he can but he's playing. I think I'm going to put a muzzle on him and try walking him and then take the muzzle off and add hot sauce in water on the leash. Anything else I could do?? Thank you

 

tell him no as far as the leash goes
i have never dealt with a dog that attacks the kennel unless they are after something outside of it

 

You could try using a chain type leash. It will deter the biting of the leash, but if he still continues, stop using it to prevent damaging his teeth.

 

Thanks for the comments. When I first got him, I didn't need a leash to get him from the kennel to the chain. He was so focused on humping my leg, I could walk him the 100 ft. and he would hold onto my leg like a kid not wanting you to leave. As for the saying NO! I have yelled at him several times trying to get him to stop. He just gives me a crazy look and does it again. He's just a pup and he plays all the time but he's out on cloud 9! LOL

 

Tried the chain to cable on mine that grabs the leash every time,and it makes no difference.

 

it honestly just sounds like the dog needs to learn how to walk on a leash. I would correct the behavior if you plan to walk him regularly.

 

Sounds like the dog lacked attention as a pup. Start spending time with that hound and talk to him on walks, rub him down and talk to him, play with him. This has always worked for me, may take some time, but it works. Work all that energy right out of him and watch how he will start to melt in your hands.

Alot of people that bumb into these kinda problems just havnt spend enough time with there dog..

Not saying you are like that Dunlap, but i see it alot. people get a dog like this, and they think the rest goes natural.
Just like kids.. if you dont give em attention and learn em ne thing they gonna end up like little hell raisers

 

Real simple, take the dog for a walk like normal. Position the dog on your right side (if your right handed, if your left handed then it's opposite), hold the leash in your left hand behind your back. Grab with your right hand all the way down the leash where it connects to the collar. It is now impossible for your dog to fight the leash, period. It may take a minute walking him/her this way and you might have to keep re adjusting and holding the leash this way so they cant bite the leash, but it will work.

 

i agree. if hes fighting the kennel then move him to a chain spot and hope that he doesn't start fighting the chain. but i think he may just need a change in scenery and some attention. it would have been easier teaching him what a leash was earlier, instead of just letting him hump.

try first walking him on a very short lead so theres nothing to bite and you have more control over his head. after he gets the idea introduce more length.

 

Good call. The less excess you have hanging there enticing him the better. Many dogs that are mouthy will do this when excited and just want something in their mouth - they just have to learn that that is off limits. It does seem to be more common with pups who have not been worked with much when young...I have a dog who was in a kennel for her her first 6 months(not in my care) and she has very bad oral fixation issues - I think it is just like a human when those things aren't satisfied during their development, it comes out later as an issue to deal with.

 

did you let him do that?

its a domination behaviour imo.

i think good avice been given, psychological stimulation is what he needs,
spend time with your dog

I've had animals that were intense off the chain somewhat like this. I usually wrap the lead up in my hand and keep it real close until I get them walking at a good pace. Then I start giving them more lead the longer I walk with them.

 

Distract his attention from the lead. Take the dog for a walk with a toy to carry/chase something he play's with like a ball or plastic bottle or spare lead.

 

have you got friends with (any type)dogs witch could be mentors ?

 

you have to be the boss . the dogs knows when he acts like this you will stop . the rest the other guys told you .

 

Exactly what i do... my boy Dig'Em does the same thing but definitely not from lack of attention.... whenever he sees the leash he knows its nothing but fun...he just gets overly excited but as soon as we get outta the yard, he's fine....

If you would keep him consult a trainer that also has experience with PitBulls!
