    Pre 1976 dogmen related question(s):

If you saw a dog (male) that was 2 years old, never tested, pretty peds, but looked promising, would you waste your time with it IF it was nutured?

This is a hypothetical question that got me thinking. I know some would mess with it because it has the potential to win and make money. However, I am sure some wouldn't because if it did win, they wouldn't have the opportunity to breed it and carry on those traits.

Which got me thinking even more - how important was it in terms of the actual sport vs. seeing what you can produce (breedings)? It's always about the next best thing it seems.

Now I know many winners were not producers, but at least you had the chance to find that out. This dog, you would not.

Same question goes for scatter bred dogs, would you waste your time with one? Sure I'll give it a shot, I don't see why not, I could careless for breedings and selling pups, I'll do it for the sport.

To be honest alot of people are in it purely for the entertainment action and money. If everybody was in it for the sport and "the love of the dogs" ect. there wouldnt be purses. or the purse wouldnt be significant amount's

From what I have seen from desexed mutts I would have to say no. It seems like it takes something out of the dogs. They almost seem to get a bit lazy. I don't know if it would effect gameness, but I think it would take some of the desire to work away. To relate it to all my fellow men I will ask this question. How much does your desire for physical work dwindle after a good night with your woman? Another question would be, how much does your energy level rise during a dry spell? This is just an opinion.

hmmm, im gonna go the polar opposite there and say yes. i have had 4 males neutered-none became lazy, work drive remains/remained constant...even w/ the old timer at over 13 years of age.

thats right- people forget to live in the "here and now' and always seem to be chaising those rainbows.

food, aftercare, transportation, etc... Stuff isn't free

as for the original question, if the dog acted like it was something he wanted todo for a living why not. If just have to breed to the blood go with a full brother or father.

I just neutered my 5 yr old min schnauzer who IS the man of the house, he has gotten more defensive and up in the other dogs face(quicker to put in line) since the jewels have been removed.

My rescue mutt bitch is spay, when I first got her she was about 12 mos, excited and playful with most dogs....now she is about 20 months and screaming at other dogs, seemingly more agressive with other bitches, still plays with a family friends male GSD.

So IMHO spaying and neutering don't "ruin" an animal. It might depend on the specific animal but mine are just as normal as intact.

I know with my bitch, espcially with her being unknown, spay and blue, there is always that little voice in the back of your head asking "how she would hunt, could she, would she?". I would want to know for the sport, for knowing she could do it. ....But the only thing she will ever hunt is those lizards in the back yard, I am happy with my loyal friend and playing fetch, walking and spring pole, and her running around with the kids.

Real dogmen it has always been for the sport and the some of the best dogs never seen a purse of 4 figures. Some of the best ch and gr ch were in it for little or even no money at all times. Sport is the real deal, money again is the root of evil in these dogs. If 4 legs don't matter, neither do the nuts!

it should all be about the sport. money is involved of course, nothings free. some are fine breaking even maybe making some beer money on the side or extra cash for the kids field trip. others are into big purses and fast money. with gambling, the more you have, the more you have to risk for it to be gambling. IMO put the dogs first and however you make your money is your business.

fame is the very last fucking thing you could ever want.

If you do it for the sport and love of the breed, if your good at it, people will know who you are, the money and fame will come along.

Again, it is still the very last thing you would want. If you can't wrap your head around that, well then I don't know what to tell you.

I agree with many of you. Fame brings nothing but trouble.
Its better to stay low key than out in the open and be A target.
I tip my hat off to all. You all seem to be lady's and gentlemen of the
    the sport.
