100% agreed with JamesT and MinorThreat. Why would anyone want a choke or prong collar on an APBT? Pointless, just harm to be done.

It really depends on the breed and the individual dog... but for an APBT, a breed that is so willing to please humans... It shouldn't be needed.

    Prongs are safer though.

Prong; less work to administer the proper correction and common belief if they cause less physical damage.

A prong used on a truly "hard" bulldog will only get you bitten.

If a prong works on the bulldog you're training;...you probably do not need one in the first place.

Between the two, only a choke is of any real use in a bad situation; and that's only because you can "hang" a dog until he passes out with a choke, while all you get with a prong is a pissed off dog chewing his way up your arm.

With that said, I've seen too many dogs damaged by chokes and I have also damaged a dog with a choke. I'm not going to lie about that. So, when I say that the force required to subdue a bulldog with either a prong or choke is too much and potentially dangerous to your dog,...I'm talking from my own personal fuckups.

Put a good buckle collar on your dog, do your groundwork thoroughly, then respect your dog for what it is and don't put it into situations where you'll have to either break bones in his throat or get yourself bitten. Know what you're dealing with and act accordingly. Leave the the chokes and prongs alone. If you really need to have your dog in iffy situations and you really need put-down power, invest in a quality e-collar and a qualified instructor to show you how to use it.

    Choose the prong.

  14. And that would be the end of that dog right there.

A prong collar creates a little pressure, any dog, ESPECIALLY a bulldog that would bite over a little pressure on its neck needs a goddamn dirt nap. A prong collar gives a very LIMITED correction it is impossible to hurt or choke the dog unless you blatantly misuse the collar, and in that case I guess you deserve to get bit. ;)

To answer the OP - if you are gonna use one or the other use a prong collar. Learn how to use it before you do though. Nothing pisses me off more than watching a fool ruin his dog because he couldn't bother to read 3 minutes worth of instructions. Chances are though if you got a stubborn bulldog he won't even notice the thing.

Is it good for your dog to pull some on the leash doesnt that help build muscle?

Yes your dog will benefit more from his walks if you let him pull.I let mine pull as hard as they want, hell i got a 3 inch collar i put on them so they can pull harder with out choking there selves down.I just lean back and let them pull my weight.

I dont know i got a dog that is so stubborn that a prong is the only option. she will take as much leash as i give her even with it. i mean she does not pull even close to as hard as with a choke or flat collar but she never does have any slack in the leash. and this aint for a lack of trying either. she is perfectly obedient in every other way, she knows who is boss and it aint her. but walking time is just like work time for her she gets so excited and is a freekin mission. i even brought her to someone with much exp and even he could not put a dent in her with the walking but could also get ever other command out of her. shit my 5 year old cousin can give her commands. i say prong but use it right. high on neck and fitted tight not all loose and rolling around.

then whats the problem with her tugging, you say walk time is work time then put a 2" collar on her and let it be her time
