    Good Advice Eljaybee
to the OP , Take the advice given. Ive never seen a dog with a week front end after a keep utalizeing the flirt.
Just be carefull and keep the dog on the ground and pay attention to youre animal. Be mindfull of heatstroke and do not over exert youre dog. Like was stated above, I do 10 to 30 min a session depending on how the dog is feeling/behaveing. I personaly only flirt my dogs 4-5 days a week. The dog needs at least one day off (with no work of any sort)2 days off if I determine the dog is "flat" and needs more rest. Proper rest is Vary importan.

How about back end? Any tips or should I start a new thread? My dog is still a pup and I can tell he is genetically gifted for muscle but I'll need to work his rear more than his front. I would assume weight pulling would be more rear oriented because of pushing off with hind legs but would love to hear experienced opinions.

I have gotten very good results on the back end from hand walking.

When you say day off, does that mean no walking?

Handwalking, ok I will do the idiot question here since I see this term a lot (and I'd rather get myself flamed here and get a straight answer than an uneducated nice made up answer elsewhere). It just means letting the dog pull on a leash on long walks? What other kinds of walking are there? Treadmill?

yeah, let it pull and you lean back and give resistance. if you search you will be able to find more on here. My girl is after every squirel, cat and bird so I use it to my advantage, instead of having her heal on a walk. When she gets tired she tends to go to the heal position. But you wanna find the thread on here about it. It talks about how too much can ruin a dog. I do 30-90 min walks. sometimes 2 a day just depends what else she does.

Thanks! That's what I thought but wanted to make sure, some of the terminology is new to me. :) Since Puck is still a pup I don't have him 'pull' too long (and not with very much resistance) on walks but just getting him used to the command for later.

my boy's back end gets a good workout from flirt, too. he's not a big puller on walks unless he sees an animal, so flirt is really the only other activity we do at the moment. and his back legs look like this:

mag, how old is ur pup? i wouldnt be doing anything too serious with him until he is at least a year old

it's hard to tell in such a small pic, but from what i can see, yeah, she could use some more muscling in the shoulder area. her back legs could also use some work. looks like she has a good rib line tho.

also, i dunno what kind of diet you're using, but my dog is on a high protein diet during working season. i dunno how much this really helps but i figure if human body-builders eat high protein diets, the same should work for dogs when trying to build muscle. probably even more so since dogs are carnivores and metabolize energy better from protein than carbs. I do give him a couple of dried sweet potato sticks about 30 minutes after a work-out to replace the energy he spent so he builds muscle instead of burning it. kind of like the way a recovery drink works for humans after a hard work-out. again, i dunno how much it helps, but it certainly isn't hurting.

how do i make the photo larger oh n its a girl shes 35lbs well i just started 1 cup of proplan performance 1 1/2 cups of cooked rice 2 table spoons of fishmeal a tbs of nupro 2 cups of water"gonna switch to chicken broth today" and a cup of pulled chicken lightly baked to get the extra skin off ima stick with this one for a month and see where it gets me the next show is a couple months away

yeah i knew she was a girl. ;) and i like the small fry dogs. my male is only 43 pounds himself. you may find that she may gain a pound or more if she builds up some good muscle.

and wow, that's a lot of food! but hey, whatever works for you, specially since the kibble you're using is full of grains/fillers and by-products. the fish meal and nupro are probably a fairly good idea, although i've never personally used them.

my dog gets 1 cup of kibble a day (at night) and the two sweet potato sticks (after his workout). that's all he gets except for occasional whole raw eggs, yogurt, or sardines. The kibble I feed is EVO herring and salmon, which is super-high protein (42%), but is balanced out with other nutrients. I know some people don't like high protein, which i've never really understood, but it has worked great for me.

the week before showtime i cut his daily ration of food in half and the day before the show i only give him a 1/4 cup. no food the day of the show until show's over. good luck on your show! maybe you can get her worked up. 2 months is enough time. i got my dog to where he is now in about 2 months.

i know everyone has different ways of doing things that work for them, but this is what i know works for me.

oh, and i dunno how to make your photo larger without taking away from the quality of the photo. it really just depends on how large your picture was when you saved it from your camera. if it's a cell pic, you may not be able to make it larger without it looking crappy.
