Dangerous dog?

Would you consider a dog dangerous if the dog nipped at someone that was coming into their yard?

 

No. If the person is trying to come on the yard without the owner present, then he deserves whatever he gets.

 

Nah stay out the yard is all he saying come in and its your ass possibly only had one dog did this

 

In my yard years earlier they would bark like the place was on fire. They would not nip.

I also had a few that where trained where you could enter there chain space and they would roll over and play. But, when a comand was given to the dog, the fury was unleashed.

 

I suppose a nip shows the appropriate restraint while warning the intruder he has obviously made an error -- I personally would not want my dog to do this, and I would train him accordingly

Coming into whose yard? The dog's owner's yard or the dogs?

Was the someone who was nipped invited/escorted in my the owner, or did the someone suddenly appear over a fence, for example?

 

The owners yard and they were not escorted in.

Honestly though, I would have no problem unless it were a friend, or someone like that.

a dangerou dog is one that is unpredictable or that will just walk up to someone and attack for no apparent reason. JMO

 

In that case, I'd be a bit disappointed if the dog didn't take off an appropriate piece of that idiot's ass.

Why would you want the dog to bite someone if they walk into your yard? I have walked into a lot of yards and with the exception of a couple of dogs, I have never had an issue with a dog showing any aggression. As far as I can tell, a dog showing aggression towards a person because they stepped into the yard is not normal. It wouldn't be a big deal unless the dog is unmanageable but I definitely would not expect all or most of my dogs to act this way. If so, I would start considering some culling. Fuck having a yardful of suspicious, skiddish, fearful, or human aggressive dogs. The last thing I need is a kid losing his baseball in my backyard and getting mauled as a result. That serves no fucking purpose. I have a gun for personal protection. Not a dog.

 

Whats that gun gonna do when no ones home........

C'mon guys...what is wrong with the dog posturing or intimidating an intruder, even chasing an intruder out w/o laying it's teeth on someone, do you really condone HA behavior from these dogs....fair or not this gets our dogs in trouble.

I was talking to a dogger that I hugely respect, he used Guardians to keep folks away from his yard....can you not see the logic of this?

 

You know what, I value a dog with brains enough to know when it needs to defend itself or its family in a crunch more than one that will go belly up and get its ass beaten. Being a dog that protects itself against a human in the right situation is not the same as being human aggressive or dangerous. I expect dogs to be dogs. I expect Bulldogs to have greater bite inhibition than other breeds, where humans are concerned; I expect Bulldogs not to "misplace" aggression as easily as others breeds; I expect bulldogs to be more human friendly and accepting of human foibles than other breeds; however, I still fully expect them to be dogs. Meter readers, workmen, whomever have walked into my yard with no problems from my dogs. The only time that anyone has ever had a problem was when an uninvited acquaintance-turned-crackhead decided to inspect and borrow items from my garage. The dog earned his dinner, in my opinion. You are certainly entitled to yours.

 

Dude, the OP said that the dog nipped someone just for walking into the yard. He didn't steal anthing. He didn't hit the owner, etc. Your response was that the dog should have took a chunk out of that guy. A dog that bites for no reason, just because it sees someone it has never seen before is a man-biter.
I have no problem with my dog taking up for me if someone is hurting my family. But, no one should be bit just because the dog doesn't recognize the person.

If you want a dog that will bite people, get one that is bred for it. IMO

By the way, I wasn't there but it doesn't sound like the OP has a man-biter. It could have done a lot more damage if you want to.

 

In my experiences the breed has an uncanny way of sniffing out the scumbags. The are alot quicker on the uptake then humans are. Sometimes when your good friend is hated by one of your dogs, you should really take notice. Sometimes those good friends are after alot more then friendship. Just my opinion.

 

somedogs will nip out of bad habit and may know better to to you and family how old is the dog and ever niped while were pup?but my opion not dangerous with a nip,since it can be fixed or they didnt need to be there.
