Oh I love to keep the Plakats, I have some now as we speak. I used to keep quite a few of them and even tried my hand at breeding them for a bit....But that didn't go so well. They require a lot of work when you breed them and they need a lot of room when you get a bunch of them.

But these little fish are really something, They would go for quite a long time considering their size and the fact that they were fish.

But as far as unusual fights, Back a long time ago there were some interesting ones out there. Before the animal welfare act I seen some unusual ones, Seen a weasel matched against a rattle snake once and that was interesting but did not last long. I can name some that would make people scratch their heads and say "what the hell was the purpose of that" but people back in the 60's and such seemed to get very interested in trying to put enemies in the wild against each other and bet on the outcome.

 

That's what I was wondering about the fish.They both look a like.How would you know if your fish won?

 

If they do,someone will figure out a way to breed these fish with big fat heads and little short fins and come on and gripe about how cruel fish fighting is,LOL Seriously though,the two meanest fish I ever owned was a little eel and about a 6 or 7 inch long baby catfish I was stupid enough to put in my fishtanks.The catfish cleaned out the tank,it rammed and smashed every fish in it.LOL

 

Matching fish is almost the same as matching other animals. If youve looked at bettas enough you would be able to tell which one is yours just by slight color difference, who has longer pelvic fins, size and many visible differences. Both fishes have to be the same size, which is eyed out from top view. Bigger head means more advantage especially when they lock jaws. The losing fish usually runs away and turns a lighter color. If that happens you will know he lost. The winning fish usually chases the other fish unless its too tired. I've been to many tournaments and people are willing to put alot on their fish. Thousand dollar matches are not uncommon. The best fighting bettas are plakats, which people call round tail or short tail. Those are the most game of the fighting fishes, good fishes fight until they die. A good quality plakat would probably cost your 30 to 50 dollars. Or you can buy a plakat from a pet store for $5 but thats equal to your back yard breeders dogs. Fish fighting is still big in parts of the world. f

 

O.M.G. Fighting fish and spiders.. I feel like Ive been living in a cave, I had NO idea! Great to learn about though, pretty cool about changing colors when they run away.
