Elias' Pistola your posts on this forum are among my favourite certainly from a historical perspective, especially for someone living in he UK. With regards to the book are there any specific questions that you have - that I may be able to find the answers to in its pages? My own personal opinion of the staff input is that back in the day obviously the staff lines were closer to the source- surely today it would just be diluting the game blood.

The most modern and best example that I really know of that the staff catalyst working is Bosco, but than agian the staff blood was the older tacoma dogs
from Al Brown... That old tacoma blood wasnt too many generations away from the truth...

Wait a minute, Am I the only one who caught this? There was NOT x-pert kennels around to be used in early century. Whether it was Clifford or John. AKC didn't recognized AST until 1936. Most of the dogs x-pert used was Corvino blood from Storklind Kennels. You all are confusing American Staffordshire Terrier which came from American Pit Bull Terriers with Staffords that came from the county of Staffordshire England which created the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

x pert was started in 1930 regaurdless of when akc recognized asts, so???
yes in the mid century tudor utilized dogs that had x pert blood that was from the earlier part of the century, so???

they say this one was neutral like the french and when in paris never name your dog roam/rome,lmao...

if we were to use another breed as a catalyst, it seems fit to breed to a cousin thats closer to the type we are looking for...
with that being said, what would be the bets choice of bully breeds to use as a catalyst???

american staff thats far removed from the objective or any real work but probably share more genetics tahna anyother???

english staff of which there are said to still be some working lines and the phsycoo and stormer dogs are a good example???

english bull terrier which seem a better catalyst for the american bullies...

or in the infamous MUTTS case, perhaps the english bull terrier???

I personally think the patterdale bulldog crosses from working families could harvest many of fruit in a basket in whch to pick different traits...
The terrier people that wanted a bigger hard terrier for catch utilize them with great success, and when selectivly bred some have returned to thier natural sizes
small enough to span a fox sette making them true terriers, others that are too big to go to ground are ustilized by dogmen that dont hunt below...
Two examples of the opisite both being succesful at thier work, the only complaints from the true terriermen that dont like a hardnose or fight creazy terrier so they can work them in pairs ans send them in multile holes that lead tot the same den tha might be emtpty in which they wouldnt wnat hem to fight eachother or
get exited and get eachother instaed of the quarry...
well i think with selective crosses of initial bulldog s to patterdales that the ones that are too big to go to ground and too HARD to hunt in teams might be the
right catalyst that might add alot old qualitites of the first imports, vast too say the least...
with this majority bulldog cross, we can hope for the same two things that came from the first initial cross that harvested the two types, below ground soft nose and the other of above ground some hard nose...
the two fruits this cross might yield are one of a smaller catch with a softnose and others that might look at eachother as the oppisition, btu taking the breed back to the workers in which they came can only help...
and a smaller size bulldog is ideal for many and alot of the imports were very small, but its unamerican to not go big...
the pat bull cross is an example that americans made popular, but not so in the original orirgins for most part...

Who told you Clifford Garnett and x-pert kennels were around in 1930? Show me registration papers from UKC or ADBA where he had those dogs. I have talk to both him and John and John sent dogs to people around here. I had them on my yard. BTW 1930's isn't early century. Not like Con Feeley's story in Dog Fancier in around 1914 or 1915 when he wrote of beating John Galvin's Pup back the late 1800's in Hammonds IN. in 2 hours and 48 minutes. Now that was early century!
