What's the deal with deer?

Does anyone know when their mating season begins and if they are aggressive towards people and animals? I know it sounds like a silly questions but I just realized the back of my new place is open land and near by there is a lake. My dog was going nuts trying to jump over the fence until I realized there was a pack of 6-10 deer a couple of feet behind my fence. They saw me looking at them and they didn't care, would any of those suckers try to hop over my fence into my yard? I am assuming if any of them get into my yard they'll try to run away and kick my dog right? They don't usually bite right?

White tail deer can be dangerous and aggressive in the rut but most will avoid a barking dog.

Where my dog was standing he couldn't see them but right away he could smell them and he was crying. I think if he could see them he would be a little more vocal. They actually were the ones with the white tail, one of them started kicking the dirt while it was staring at me lol

The rut is in the fall. The only time the are dangerous is when the does are in season or if you hit them with your car lol. They would have no problem jumping your fence if they wanted to. If you don't have a garden, they probably won't bother. My garden was 20 yards from my 6 dogs and I had deer in there all the time. They're smart but they'll try to avoid you if they can.

I assume I can't kill the deer unless it was hunting season and in a designated hunting zone right? I start throwing rocks at those bastards. I know they carry disease and ticks, that's the last thing I want in my yard.

I don't have flowers or anything like that, All i have is what you see grass, dirt and sand.. I am not a fan of having flowers or plants in my backyard because I hate doing yard work like that. Grass alone shouldn't attract them right?

If I had deer in my backyard like that thier numbers would be getting smaller weekly and my dogs will be getting fat,on a serious note bucks can be a little edgy around the rut which is the breeding season depening on where you live between sept and till the end of december usually they are pretty easy to scare off unless there used to people

Correct, they have grass everywhere so they probably won't jump your fence just for grass. You can only hunt them during the designated hunting season for your area. Some people poach but thats on you and if you think you can get away with it.

I gotta read up on the laws, the back of my place is all property of the town, so maybe it is considered a hunting zone. My buddy hunts so maybe I can have him come over and dispatch them.

The rut is in the fall.Like was mentioned, the deer won't hurt you unless you put out a garden or dress up as another buck during the rut, lol. I literally have deer coming out of my ears around here and I've had zero problems with them.I've seen them within 100 feet of my chainspots and the deer have never caused any problems,I wouldn't even worry about them.

lol @ dressing like a buck..

My next door neighbor told me that their dog got lymes disease and their son because of the ticks. Although, I did read somewhere don't know if it is accurate that the ticks carried by rats are the ones that carry ticks infected with lymes diease.

The rut is in October/November. Bucks are not the only deer you need to be wary of, female deer can and do beat the living shit out of dogs who they feel are threatening their fawn.
Does give birth in the spring around May or June, so be careful.

Deer are filthy and carry ticks with lyme disease. My dad had a friend who died from lyme disease. All he did was feed deer.

deer will be fine as long as you leave them alone . they're in my yard everyday . they know the dogs are on chains . they are smart . ticks carry lyme disease . the deer won't be jumping your fence if you have nothing they want . they don't eat grass . they eat the new shouts like weeds and new leafs on trees . i eat deer meat all the time .

do it a night that way you can sneek up real close at night they are way less spooky, get you a recharge spotlight cover it with red lens tape. sneek up and try and go threw both lungs. teach a man to fish feed him for life, teach a man how to poach feed him his dogs and throw a party.. Say they charged you

Aint nobody gonna believe a dude shot a deer from the side, through both lungs in self-defense
Not to mention, the deer will run (but not for long) and the guy who shot it will go and find it and bring it home. Doesn't smell like self-defense to me

Become proficient with the "silent death", aka a compound bow, or cross bow. I would make sure your fence is behind the animal to stop the arrow, if there is a "need" to protect your "property" (dogs). Aim for just behind the front shoulder on either side, so it will not just injure the deer. Most deer arent a problem as mentioned in this thread, but sometimes a buck can get testy.
