oldguy alot of the dogs like max etc had 1/4 wise blood in him so what makes you think that skipper was the main influence in producing them ??...thanks

Ed had the breeds interest at heart, a peddler doesnt. It wasnt one way traffic with Ed, yes he did make money at it, but he also put something back into it ... and still does !

When Rangatang was throwing man biters Ed stopped using him. How many other breeders of the time would have been as responsible and done the same ? 0 !

I was always hopeless at breeding dogs mate so I don't know too much about what percentage of Wise blood was in Ch.Scotsman's Max etc, but let me say this... The Wise dogs that I saw back in the eighties were mostly game plugs... No brains, no mouth, nothing but they would just scratch all night... A good example of this would be Scotsman's Rambo and his sister Sheera (Charlies dam)

I watched Ch.Scotsman's Max defeat his half brother Ch.Billy and I asked myself that day why Max was the better dog when clearly he was smaller, plus they were both sired by Reid's Skipper anyway... I decided firstly that Ch.Max had more prey drive and cunning than Billy (not a Wise trait that I ever saw)

IMO Max figured out he could never defeat Billy in a standup fight so he bedded in for the night and just waited for the opportunity - no matter how long it took - to kill him (which he did)... That's when I decided (rightly or wrongly) that Skipper bred to Texas Minnie or Reid's Beauty was a formula for champions given that if the RSPCA hadn't murdered Buddy 2xw then Ch.Max, Ch.Dread and Buddy would probably have become an rom litter....

I don't know too much detail about Adam's Kingfish but Stubblefields Gr.Ch.Buddy was renouned as a supreme head fighting dog with formidable strength and a talent for controling his opponent, this descripion could easily be applied to Ch.Hagar, Gr.Ch.Bill, Charlie 2xw etc... I never did see a Wise bred head fighting dog... Not saying there wasn't any? just that I never saw them!

    Ch.Max, Ch.Yogi, Ch,Hagar, Ch.Bash, Charlie 2xw Hell's Jock's Sheera 2xw, Gr.Ch.Bill etc all resembled Kingfish type dogs and they threw the same.

When I saw the speed and destructive style of Ch.Sheena Black and learned her dam was Reid's Texas Minnie I became interested in the Scotsman's Max x Sheena Black cross... I became even more convinced this was the way forward after I witnessed the quality of Northern Lad's Nailer 1xw, Nuttal's Black Max 2xw and Kelly's Sid... Kingfish x Carver/ Skipper x Texas Minnie and any variations of those blood lines... Call it by any name you like, but I believed in it for sure...

The problem with my argument and one that might support yours is that the hardest mouth dog I ever saw was Scar Kennel's Ch.Jacko... If you want to talk about freaks then Jacko was one... he was plenty Skipper, plenty Wise and zero Texas Minnie... There goes my theory ha ha!

I bred this dog, from a dog from Beedalls Captain and a Bronsons bitch, who had Black jack bronson as the granfather. This dogs sire is the fawn dog in my profile pictures and i think is bred the same way as Reids 'LUCY'(definatly Wises)The Dam is the black bitch in my profile pictures.Ive lost/mislaid papers and would like to trace it properly.Hi oldtymer,i'm just looking at a ped from a mating of Black-Nailus to Bronsons 'Lizzy. Here It's got 'Bullet written down as 'Reids Bullet'2xw' and was bred to 'Patricks Pistol Peg'?How's it said? Rank Deceivers! Could you please send me any info on 'Beedalls Bullet' and any Bronson dogs you have?It would be much appciated.Takecare.

this is what i remember, please feel free to ciorrect if i got any of it wrong. reids first were females trudy/lucy (circa 76) from bob wise, around the same time he imported 2 males brutus, a brother to those females and al capone, both red.pretty soon after he was gifted skipper and his sister stephie from g stubblefield, both were brindles.

  17. thanx sunbeam , im sure the dog i saw was brindle , i was only in his house a short while but ed said to me walk straight down the passage dont worry he will stare, have a sniff and watch you but wont bite , The dog did'nt take his eye off me for a second and to be honest at 15 years old i found it hard to concentrate on the books that i went to buy . canine gladiators and a book by armitage and also another quite old book that ed got reprinted , i always planned to get a apbt but at that time i was well out of the money stakes though i never lost the breed interest . i find the breed both in its modern form and in its historical setting to be so very interesting couple that up with its connections to human genealogy and human migration across the atlantic and thats why ive always seen the bulldog / p b t has the working mans original best friend which even followed him to far away places

I have Beedell's (reids) Bullet X Patrick's Pistol peg that produced Glory's General who in turn was bred to Bronson's Judy Mac = Mac's Pilot that was the topside. Bottom side was Bronson's Red out of Nuttall's Nigger (Beedell's Copper x pistol peg) X Bronson's Dollar ( Blackjack Bronson X Be Bop Bronson) I've written it a bit ass about face bt i think you'll get the gist lol
