Thank you for clarifying your position Boze. You sounded like some animal rights wacko there for a second. The decision should always be simple and clear and it is in theory, but in practice there are all kinds of grey areas and I think one should always walk another mile in a man's shoes before judging him. There are dogmen who have grieved long and hard over dogs they have lost and have kicked themsleves for years for making a bad judgement call. Often by the time it is obvious you should pick up it is too late, in dealing with game dogs a person is forced to make judgement calls. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong.

    Hey Boze.

I'm pretty sure they DID pick him up, how else do you get a draw?

I don't remember the exact story it was a while ago, so maybe I'm wrong.

And honestly at that point, why WOULDN'T you leave him down. If he is winning and your at 4 hours, as pointed out, odds are against him making it at that point anyway. Now he picks up and gets a D, AND loses the dog...

    One less Ch...

so you guys would pick up if you got the hog streched out at 3hrs but like i said he was D.G so every time the spung and water hit him he rose from the dead and made a stumbling scratch while your dog is bucking and screaming protesting for a release???

Nothing to debate here U.T.K, most of the people on here are dogman wannabe's they've only read storys or had the neighborhood tough dog that did :15 in a pull. Now they think they got a deep game bulldog.

No that was my point the other side should have picked up taken there loss and saved a game dog. That is what I hate is when you have some dick head that is leaving there little game dog in and it takes forever and you end up with two dead game dogs. I have seen it alot one side is just betting on a dream of winning untill they push both past the point of no return, that is not a true sportsman, that is the same kind of people that fuck around on handeling to try and get back in the game. Too bad he couldnt finish.

if it is a two x then you go for the next how in the hell else are you to see what you really have. Stop running with the what if's and see where you are at. stopping a hunt has many reeaons but the for siad it is mostly on the dog. you must have hunted and are happy with the sad results.

ya i went a little crazy. i know what you are saying there is a big difference when both dogs are going at and taking a lot of damage but still look strong and when one dog is litterally just hanging on an ear because he refuses to give up but is left there for a miracle. i just feel to many times the gamest of this breed are left down to long and there elusive traits are lost.

  14. I am sure F4's Bandit 2xw-1xd was a magnificent animal. I also experienced loosing a great one in similar fasion. 1XW we went 1h58 no turns, I swear it felt like 10min, opponent goin for his GRCH RIP. 2XW 3h03min, I swear we din't even need stiches after that & he walked 45min later! 3d one we RIP 2h18, at 1h50 I didn't believe that that was the time, I thought of picking up but he always scratches and I never felt he wont, at 2h18 we to scratch and he can't stand, stand him up and he falls down, just laying there RIP. I messed it up for not picking up. It is easy to point fingers and say bad owner should have picked up, won't let my hog down. My question is: Have you ever been there, have you experienced it? Why do we go for 5 after 3? Why do we go for 7 after 5? And 10 after that? It will never be enough....

i agree we all make mistakes and that does not make a ad owner but most of the time when a dog is taken to far it is clear to see they are getting weaker and they are slowing down to me if they continue to get weaker and are not winning pick up. but death happens in all dog sports. look at the iditarod sometimes those dogs are pushe dto far and pass on, but i feel it is up to us to minimize this as much as humanly possible. we need to be good at after care or have someone who is and learn when is to much. i believe this also comes with experience.

I agree with some of your points boze but sometimes there's times your dog is getting it handed to him but you can see in the other bad signs. Knowing your dog is game your like a couple more. And this dog is gonna pack it in. Either way your gonna question yourself if you made the right choice. But i hear ya. Some are just bad sportsmen and refuse to pick up

there is a thin line between sportsmanship and what's called unsportsmanlike actions to keep it clean as possible. Yet there is also the a plane of consciousness, heart and courage to where THIS breed can travel to than none other can touch. Gameness is the hallmark of this breed. simple. Now to find a balance between gameness and sportsmanship is where the difficulty in calling a competition comes into play. hindsight is 20/20 and legends in this breed are made by those who can push the limit and return. The competition between Bandit and Schitzo ( not sure how his name is spelled but that is the name) is one of those rare events where both challaengers are willing to go into the deep end and not return for for victory and glory. Unless you were there or know the people who were around these animals first hand you really don't have much to say. there is a select few on this thread, they know who they are, that recognize what happened and what the bandit stock is today there after. with those words i leave the forum to not belittle Bandit's journey to the edge of life on the fuel of gameness, but to appreciate it for the extremely rare showcase of determination and heart it is often overlooked for.
