apbt came from bully or bully came from apbt?

I'm getting frustrated telling these guys that bully is a new breed so there no chance apbt came from them.

  2. American Bullies are APBT with larger mastiff dogs mixed in, namely the Cane Corso and the Neapolitan in the early foundation dogs of this "breed" (train wreck would be a more suitable title).

It has been openly admitted by some of the breed founders, its not something open for argument. Tell them to go do their research and realize that the founders of their "breed" have already spilled the beans.

okay he said bulldog instend of bully

  4. The APBT certainly did not come from the American Bulldog - the two are entirely different breeds and neither one "came from the other". Although they may share common ancestry at the development of the breeds.

They both were developed around the same time and both have old world bulldog (butcher's dogs) blood in them, but are two entirely different breeds all together.

The American Bulldog isn't a new breed really - development started in the 1800's. Where exactly the American Bulldog came from is debated there are three different theories.

    1) They were brought over by colonists

    2) They second theory is they came down from English Bulldogs

    3) The third theory, and the one most folks agree with, is that they were bred down from immigrants bulldogs and bull terriers. This is where the beginning of the American Bulldog would seem similar to the beginning of the American Pit Bull Terrier.

There is not a concrete paper trail for the start of the American Bulldog - they were purely a working dog at development, so much of their exact origin is theory. We know a lot about later contributors to the breed and how they shaped the modern American Bulldog, but they founders of the breed did not feel the need to keep peds and document their breedings early on.

Here's a read on the folks involved in the bloodlines and typing of modern Am Bulls - http://www.bulldoginformation.com/american-bulldog.html

Further back than these guys, knowledge of the breed development is limited.

Little random fact - when accepted into breed registry in 1970 they were originally called the American Pit Bulldog but the name was changed to avoid confusion with APBT.

The APBT is a descendant of old-time bulldogs, yes. But there were no specific breeds or registries at that point in history; dogs were defined by what purpose they served.

Some believe that the APBT is a direct descendant of the bulldog of old, while others believe that various breeds of terrier were incorporated to create the bull-n-terrier, of which the APBT then was developed from when those dogs came to America.

Personally, I believe some strains of APBT are more bulldog than terrier and vice-versa.
