Thread: Kennel and Dog House set up

Re: Set-up for an escape artist...
Maybe these will help some folks.
Here's a kennel right after I put it together.

Then I build a fence floor and add the sections to help keep the gravel in place when I add it.

Then cover it all with gravel

If you look real close you can see the welded wire that covers the top. I use a 2x4 across the middle to support the fencing. It also makes it easy to put tarps across the top for shade.

Then of course a nice dog house is always essential.

thats really nice boogie..only thing i can add about kennels is when you tie a tarp to the top ,make sure your kennel is tied to the ground..wind during a good thunderstorm will sail them like a kite.had it happen to me.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
I've discovered another problem which is snow piling up on it. Have to take a broom and keep it pushed off. I have the whole kennel covered now. When I took these pics I only had a portion covered for a good shade spot all day. I have since connected the kennels to the framing at the bottom also. Take a 2 or 3 ft section of 2x4 and sandwich the fence and screw it into the wooden frame at the bottom. Problem solvedthats really nice boogie..only thing i can add about kennels is when you tie a tarp to the top ,make sure your kennel is tied to the ground..wind during a good thunderstorm will sail them like a kite.had it happen to me.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
What grade is that chain link? It looks like 11 or higher gauge. IF I had a dog in a kennel I wouldn't use anything higher then 9 gauge chain link fencing and even change the connectors to a better one or higher gauge.
My question is have any of you EVER had or seen a REAL escape artist, or all yall just speculating what a real escape artist would do or looks like? LOL.
In that other thread about the dog breaking out the crate and biting that chick, yall seemed suprised cause it was missing some bolts or some **** LMAO, Yall dont realize that a determined dog can break out of those crates easy even if it was brand new, thats why I dont view most of those commercial plastic or wire dog crate as a acceptable secure method of containing a dog, unless you custom make it or get a super durable one.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
First of all I don't know who "yall" is but I didn't even post in the thread about the dog breaking out of a kennel and biting the girl. Anybody that thinks a dog can't chew out of a plastic kennel is a retard. Anybody that thinks a dog can't get out of a chainlink or welded wire kennel is a retard. Anybody that thinks a dog can't somehow get off a good chain set up is a retard. Fact is **** happens. Any and all method can and will fail from time to time. You do your best to put a set up together that will lessen the changes of escape. You do this, you check your set up daily, and you'll have fewer if any escapes in the long run. That's the goal. There is NO set up that is bullet proof no matter what anybody thinks. What grade is that chain link? It looks like 11 or higher gauge. IF I had a dog in a kennel I wouldn't use anything higher then 9 gauge chain link fencing and even change the connectors to a better one or higher gauge.

So instead of being a ****, why not contribute something to the thread if you want to post in it. Besides this thread isn't about crates.

Here's the dog house-

(I think)
Only problem I see with the house is that in the link, the pics don't match the plan! Look at the dividing wall between the two rooms, plan is single wall and pic has a double!
I like the kennel a lot.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
depends on the size gravel you get..here run about 250 to 300 for a dumptruck load..just shovel the **** up all you do..if u have to put more gravel in once in a while no big deal.you can take a pump up sprayer mix clorox and water and soak the gravel down rinse it off with a water hose..move the dog out on a chain while u do it..its cleanable.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
I moved the male to a chain setup after that happened. He had been in there since he was a pup. The kennels are for the females and so far no bad chewers in them. I was thinking about pups when I spaced the decking boards and only spaced them about 5/8." The last ones I built I went ahead and spaced them an inch to 1 1/4" and its a lot better on cleanup. I also added a metal roof cause I hate the h***le of tarps.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
Lol Bogart eats his crates too I went through 4 different kinds before I shelled out the cash for an aluminum crate he is truly an escape goat I am sure he could get out of anything he wanted to. I know eventually I would like to move the dogs outside for part of the day so lots of great info in this thread. Boogie i like those houses very nice.

Re: Kennel and Dog House set up
Boogie you did a nice job on the kennel ,I was looking at it on my phone last night I am looking on a computer now looks even better. And thats a nice lookin pup also..As far as escape artist everybody will have one or two the owner knows them and should know the propper way to contain them.So while boogie's setup may not work for everyone as long as it works for him and his dogs is what counts.
