Training my american bulldog x presa canario 6 months
Hi my pup is now 6 months and im begining to find it hard to train her. She listens to basic commands sit, lie, leave, wait and come but as soon as i take her on walks and shes off leash and she sees other dogs she does not listen to me at all. Shes not aggressive to other dogs she just wants to play but as she is so big i think she abit frightning to other dogs walkers. Has anyone got any training tips or techniques i could use so she behaves off the leash, she is a good dog all round really and ium not sure if its because shes still a pup so any ideas would be appreciated thanks!
Heres a pic of her now 6 months.

That kind of training should be done by a professional trainer. But even then I would never walk a dog off leash. It's against the law in most places to do so.You also run the risk of running into someone else who thinks they don't need a leash either and if your dogs listen and there's don't you still have to explain to the police why you dog was loose. It's always better for you and your dog if you can say (my dog was on a lead the whole time).JMO

I hope you are not walking that dog off leash in public, that's a terrible idea. You need to take your dog to a formal obedience club where you can learn what you are doing with the dog. You can't do any of this by your self at home or watching a video or reading an article. You need to train your dog in front of distractions and target certain behaviors you want out of it. Your dog may not be a Pit Bull but it sure has a lot of potential to become dog agressive and the Presa/Bulldog blood can assist in human agression so be very careful with the dog.
PS. Do not go to Petco or Petsmart for training lol

My bulldog is the same way. Listens to basic obedience indoors. But when outside it's on. He's friendly and sniffing everything. Wants to greet all humans and dogs. I rarely have him off leash. I want to avoid anything negative that can happen cuz when it does, my dog and I will be labeled the bad guy. When the prey drive kicks in there's no stopping them. These are not herding dogs or Shepards.

Holy shit,
I wish there was a lease law in the UK. I get sick of dogs running up to my dog (SBT hates big dogs) when we are out walking...
Your dog looks really cute but big, hope you get the training for your dog you need.

Training all the basics like sit down stay come heel while other dogs and distractions are abundant will do wonders. Master these on lead first and then practice of lead in ways that ensure success and praise for your dog.

Re: Training my american bulldog x presa canario 6 months
Once your dog is listening to basic commands on a regular leash, maybe get a 12-15 foot piece of parachute cord. It's light enough that sometimes they wont feel/pay attention to it until you need to use it to correct/encourage them.
remember puppies have short attention spans and to always make it a good thing. listening to owner = treats and praise and chest scratching and play-time
