A 3 and a half month old male puppy from my Patterdale X Bulldog litter. I have given him to East-Europe, and the new owner has cropped the ears. Looks good, but it is not allowed in my country.

I picked up a cross yesterday and this little guy is a rat killing machine at 10 months. Great little guy so far and a real joy so far. A little big but damn smart and hungry to get on something, going to set a trap tomorrow night see if we can get him something easy like a opossum to have fun with by himself. If we get a coon time to bring out the bulldogs with him, got 2 bulldogs that get along with him too. Coons are in trouble this year!

ID:	22171 19lbs of pure power! At a year old straight up hunting monster. Hell he works as a squirrel dog, he hates hunting them because he can't climb a tree yet but he is trying awful hard. Had a lot of fun this weekend with him, to bad I am working Sunday.

patterdales are a TYPE of terrier bred to hunt.
we did a cross last year. the 50/50 dogs hunt like demons.
we hunt coons that weigh more than 30lb and coyote.
small (10lb) patterdales get their face destroyed by large coon.
20lb patterdales take an ass kicking from a 30lb coon and don't have enough wind to go 20 to 30 minutes if we have to dig to them.
the 50/50 dogs have wind like a bulldog and can kill coon in short order.
plus they can run with hounds when hunting coyote.
when bred back to a patterdale a 50/50 bitch from that litter threw some awesome pups that are hunting in their first season. that same bitch was on 150 coon last winter before she was 18 months old.
hardcore hunters want dogs that get the game, they aren't worried about 'pure' breeds.
patterdales have always been a mix of lakeland, border, russell, and gamedog.
    again I disagree.

The statements you are making about Patterdales being mixed dogs, may have been true 20 years ago, but it is not today. If a Patterdale has more than 1/8th of any other blood in it, It is not a Patterdale. Dogs that are a mix of lakeland, border, russell, and gamedog are not Patterdales, they are fell terriers. A Patterdale is a fell terrier, but not all fell terriers are Patterdales.

What line of Patterdales are you working that can't go 30 minutes. I dug to a 12 month old 13 pound dog six weeks ago that got hammered for 6 hours, he never slowed down, and never made a sound. The only thing unusual about the dig, was the age of the dog.

Ike is 3/4 Patt and 1/4 Pit. He is a very good dog. an old man now, but he jumped out of a second story window a couple months ago to get a coon he smelled in the woods. Click image for larger version

I think most Patterdales that couldn't go the hour would be culled in the UK,Hardcore hunters would cull if the dog wasn't deadgame!

I don't have or breed Patterdales unfortunately, and i am only involved with APBTs. Anyways, so this is more of a question for you. A Fell terrier is a type of terrier and a patterdale terrier is a subtype (under a Fell terrier) And since the UKC recognizes the Patterdale as a specific breed because it breeds true. Do you not think its a breed of its own? and why?

The various lines of Patterdale may breed true but theres so much variation between lines i don't see how its been reconized and anyway it's bred for ability so we shouldn't even be going down that road of reconisation!
