Urge Prosecution of Man Who Mutilated a Dog with a Chainsaw
Help hold animal abuser accountable for atrocious offense
WARNING: This alert contains graphic descriptions of animal torture.
Monson, Mass. resident Randall R. Mason, 41, faces animal cruelty charges for maiming his housemate's dog with a chainsaw so badly that the German shepherd mix had to be euthanized. Mason was arrested and then released last week from police custody on $10,000 bail following his arraignment in Palmer District Court.
Police were called to the scene of the crime around 1:00 a.m. when a neighbor reported the noise of the chainsaw and a dog crying. They found Mason with the dog, whose front paws, head and hindquarters had been sliced open. The suspect, who appeared intoxicated, said that the dog became anxious when he started the chainsaw in the house, and that he tried to kill the helpless canine because he "saw the devil in the dog's eyes."
While the dog was still alive when police arrived, he was soon euthanized due to the great extent of his injuries. The dog's guardian, Jason V. Wemette, was at work when Mason attacked his dog, and agreed that he would have to be put to sleep, as he was suffering badly and probably could not have survived. A pretrial conference to begin the legal process against Mason is scheduled for Thursday, February 1st.
Please contact Hampden County District Attorney William Bennett and politely urge him to seek the maximum penalty for Randall Mason. Mention that research conducted by the FBI and other law enforcement groups has established a direct connection between cruelty to animals and violence toward human beings.

if everyone can please either call the DA or write him a letter, that would be great. I called this morning and it seems there have been millions of phone calls coming in to him regarding this case, which doesn't surprise me at all.
